The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is making available ten M.A. Scholarships to support students planning to start 'taught' or 'research' M.A. programmes in October 2007. The Scholarships fully fund fees at the full-time UK/EU rate (currently £3,168), but the Faculty welcomes applications from overseas students as well as from UK and other EU students. The M.A. Scholarships Scheme covers 'taught' and 'research' programmes in all of the following departments:

The Department of Computer Science offers a number of Departmental Undergraduate Scholarships for undergraduates at the start of their university studies. Candidates are eligible to try for a Scholarship by entering the Challenge. All entries will be assessed and the entry or entries judged to be the best will lead to the offer of a Scholarship which will be confirmed upon enrollment for that year.

RULES AND CONDITIONS

The Scholarship Scheme
The Department of Computer Science offers a number of Departmental Undergraduate Scholarships for undergraduates at the start of their university studies.
All entries will be assessed and the contestant(s) who submitted the entry or entries judged to be the best will be offered a Scholarship(s) which will be confirmed upon enrollment for that year.

There are a limited number of Scholarships available each year. If insufficient entries are made to the Scholarship Challenge at an appropriate level then not all Scholarships will be awarded.

The Department may wish to arrange publicity relating to the winner(s) of the Challenge.

Entry instructions
The Challenge consists of two parts - a test of abstract reasoning skills, and a programming challenge.

You must submit your entry using this on-line form.

You must submit a plain text file with your answers to the four questions.

You must submit a plain text file with the source code of your program. Any of PERL, Java, ANSI C++, ANSI C, and Visual Basic are acceptable languages.

Your entry must be your own work and you must click the box which states that the submission is your own work.

The closing date for entries is Friday 15th June 2007.

Assessment
Submissions will be assessed by the Admissions team of the Department of Computer Science, Royal Holloway, University of London. Your answers to the abstract questions must include enough working so that we can see how you came to your answers. Your program will not just be assessed on correctness and speed. It will also be assessed on coding style and general code quality.

The Department’s judgment of the quality of submissions is final.

The Department cannot be held responsible for any lost, delayed or corrupted entries.

The results will be announced on Monday 9th July 2007 and all contestants will be notified of the results. The names of the winners will be published on the website.

Eligibility
The Challenge is open to any candidate who is considering applying, or has applied, to study Computer Science or a related degree in the Department of Computer Science at Royal Holloway, University of London.

The Challenge is open to contestants of all nationalities and all countries.

Employees of Royal Holloway, University of London and their families are not eligible to enter this Scholarship Challenge.

Renewal
Only those Scholars who achieve an overall first class mark in their end-of-year examinations for years one and two will be eligible for the renewal of the award in years two and three, when the continuation awards of £500 p.a. will be paid.

We are looking for a promising and highly motivated candidate for a year post-doctoral position in continuous optimization at Tokyo Institute of Technology, one of the leading university of science and technology in Japan. The candidates must hold or expected to hold a PhD degree in Optimization, Applied Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, Computer Science, or Computational Chemistry by the time of employment. Also, he/she must have a background in continuous optimization or computational chemistry. A research experience focused on theoretical or computational optimization is welcome. However, there will be given priority for candidates who have some experience or interest in optimization problems related to Semidefinite Programming as well as its applications. Thanks to the inspired generosity of Mr Paul Fentener van Vlissingen, exceptional students can apply for a Fentener van Vlissingen Environmental Management MBA Scholarship, which grants 3 winners each an amount of €10,000 towards the cost of a full-time MBA.

Three scholarships will be awarded to full-time MBA students who want to contribute to sustainable development. The recipients will be required to complete their MBA with a research project in the field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainable Development.

To apply for the scholarship, candidates must write a 1000 word essay. In this essay candidates should outline how, by following a TiasNimbas MBA and completing it with a development related research project, they can benefit their local community or environment. The Dutch Government has restructured its educational system by introducing the Bachelor-Master system (BaMa) after the European Ministers of Education had agreed to make the educational level for higher vocational education more comparable. The whole of Europe now has an identical educational system consisting of two stages: a Bachelor and a Master stage. For example, if you have completed your Bachelor’s study in Economics in the Netherlands, you will have about the same educational qualifications as one who has completed the same study in France. After completion of a Bachelor’s study, one can specialise further on a Master’s level.

Dutch residents
Studying full-time at a Hogeschool or University entitles Dutch residents to receive a grant by the Dutch Government (studiefinanciering). In addition to financial support, they also receive compensation for travelling costs (OV jaarkaart). These compensations are applicable for the Bachelor as well as the Master stage.

Since the start of the programme in 2002, the MSc EF provides academic education in forestry focusing on the international dimension of sustainable forest management issues. In this programme, European forestry universities collaborate intensively to offer joint courses as well as their existing curricula, based on the knowledge and experience of forest management for which European Forestry was the cradle centuries ago.

The international dimension of the programme is strengthened by the Partnership established with the Universities of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa, Federal University of Parana in Brazil and Northwest Agriculture & Forestry University in China.

The MSc EF programme is open to students and professionals from all countries. Minimum requirements for studying the MSc EF include a good level of English, and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in forestry or other related disciplines.

Lion Air dan Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik, akan menyelenggarakan Lomba Penulisan Esai untuk Siswa SLTP, SLTA, Guru dan Mahasiswa, serta Penulisan Surat Untuk Siswa SD Seluruh Indonesia dengan tema ”OPTIMISME ANAK BANGSA INDONESIA

Menulis merupakan salah satu sarana pembelajaran bagi setiap manusia untuk meningkatkan pengetahuannya. Melalui aktivitas menulis setiap manusia didorong untuk melakukan aktivitas membaca maupun memperbanyak pengalaman dalam kehidupan sosialnya. Dengan memperbanyak bacaan inilah, bagi seseorang yang menulis akan memiliki nilai tambah dalam pengetahuan. Atas pertimbangan yang demikian, Mejelis Ditilitbang Pimpinan Pusat Muhammadiyah dalam momentum hari guru 23 Nopember 2006 kemarin, menyelenggarakan perlombaan menulis esai untuk para siswa SLTP, SLTA, mahasiswa dan guru sebagai sarana untuk menumbuhkan motivasi dan dorongan serta rasa optimis/percaya diri bagi kalangan pelajar, mahasiswa maupun guru untuk menulis.

Acara yang dilaksanakan atas kerjasama dengan PT Lion Air dan Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik ini berlangsung melalui dua tahap. Pertama yaitu tahap persiapan yang dimulai awal Nopember 2006 sampai Desember 2006, sedangkan tahap kedua yaitu penjurian yang dilaksanakan awal Januari 2007 sampai awal bulan April 2007. Proses kegiatan ini dimulai dengan pendataan sekolah dari enam zona, yakni :1) Sumatera, 2) Jawa dan Madura, 3) Bali, NTT, dan NTB, 4) Kalimantan, 5) Sulawesi, 6) Maluku dan Papua. Pembagian zona ini dilakukan dengan harapan agar finalis nantinya bisa diperoleh tidak hanya untuk daerah tertentu saja, melainkan bisa dari berbagai daerah mulai dari Sabang sampai Merauke.

Untuk menyaring peserta yang akan mengikuti lomba penulisan Esai ini, pihak panitia menentukan beberapa persyaratan yang harus dipenuhi, diantaranya adalah : 1) Peserta adalah siswa/ mahasiswa seluruh Indonesia yang masih aktif, disertakan foto kopi kartu siswa/ mahasiswa yang masih berlaku (atau surat keterangan dari sekolah), 2) Bagi guru menyertakan surat keterangan dari sekolah tempat mengajar. 3) Untuk Penulisan Esai, naskah dalam bahasa Indonesia diketik 2 spasi font 12 pada kertas A4 minimal 5 halaman. 4) Untuk penulisan surat, naskah dalam bahasa Indonesia ditulis tangan sendiri pada kertas folio bergaris maksimal 2 halaman. 5) Naskah dikirimkan rangkap 3 (tiga), karya peserta sendiri dan belum pernah dipublikasikan. 6) Peserta hanya boleh mengirimkan satu tema. International Graduate Assistantships (IGA)
These assistantships waive the out-of-state fees, and are awarded to new incoming students on the basis of demonstrated academic ability, evidence of extracurricular involvement and financial need. International Graduate Assistants are required to work 10 hours per week while school is in session. To be considered for the IGA, applicants must have on file a completed application for admission and completed IGA application by the stated deadline. Applications for the International Graduate Assistantship are included in the International Student Graduate Application for Admission form.

Graduate Assistantships (GA)
After arrival on campus, graduate students may apply for a regular graduate assistantship. Students must contact individual departments on campus to find out about current availability of positions and to arrange for an interview. Graduate Assistants do not pay tuition, but are charged fees of approximately $400 per
semester (this figure does not include health insurance fees, residence hall and meal plan fees, books and supplies and other living costs). GAs are required to work 15-20 hours per week and receive a stipend. More information available at the page for graduate programs.

DENMARK: PhD Scholarship in Health Psychology and Market Communication

The MAPP Centre at Aarhus School of Business invites applications for two PhD scholarships starting 1 February 2007 in the area Health Psychology and Market Communication. Employment is subject to the final grant from Research Council coming through.

The scholarships are part of the research projects: Step by step improvements of children`s preferences towards healthier foods and Health Branding. These projects run from 1 January 2007 till 31 December 2009 and are financed by the Programme Committee for Food and Health under the Strategic Research Council. The nature of the projects requires at least one of the applicants to speak Danish.

Terms of employment
The PhD students are expected to concentrate their research in the areas covered by the research projects mentioned and that they are willing to give lectures - also in English - within their fields. As part of the PhD scholarship the applicant will be enrolled in a PhD programme comprising a number of courses within the relevant research area.

Applicants are expected to be willing to spend up to 6 months at a foreign university as part of the scholarship. There will be a minimal teaching load in the department programs and we offer wide possibilities for PhD scholars to attend conferences, where they can present their research. Furthermore, we expect that PhD scholars participate in activities arranged by the department. The applicants will be evaluated by an expert assessment committee whose final recommendations will be sent to the applicant. Priority will be given to the applicant who shows the best research potential.

The scholarship amounts to a minimum monthly salary of app. EUR 2.700 + 17.2% pension payment in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the appointee`s organization. There is no tuition fee.

The Department of Economics at the University of Essex is pleased to announce that four scholarships, each worth £5,000, will be awarded to full-time students who will be enrolled for an MSc programme in the Department of Economics for the academic year 2007-2008. Deadline

To be considered for one of these awards, applications for admission onto one of our Master's degree schemes should be received by the Department no later than 30 April 2007. Two applications are necessary: for admission to the University for an MSc scheme taught in the Department of Economics, and, separately, for one of the economics scholarships.

Scholarship Application Procedure

UK: MSc Studentship in Innovative Production Planning Framework within the Sheet Feeding Industry
A fully funded MSc by Research studentship investigating the production planning process within the sheet feeding industry is currently available.

Abbey Corrugated and Cranfield University are undertaking this collaborative research project following the success of a previous MSc research project, which involved the development of a Full Pallet System for the sheet feeding industry.
This project extends this research and aims to establish the optimum board stack height for each board flute to enable the maximum percentage fill on the delivery vehicles. This will require research into the shop floor; including discussions with transport and sales. Additionally one of the objectives of the MSc by research project is to understand and apply the outcome of the previous research project at one of the Abbey Corrugated sites.

As a PhD student within the Department of Parasitology, you will form part of the section `Cellular Immunology of Parasitic Infections’ investigating the details of interaction between human hosts and parasites. The project has strong international links and will be carrying out population studies in Indonesia, Gabon and Ghana. These studies will be combined with laboratory-based studies in Leiden, including in vitro cell culture studies and in vivo animal models. USA: Russell E. Train Fellowship Program - Guidelines for Sumatra and the Heart of Borneo 2007 - 2008

To be eligible to receive a Russell E. Train Fellowship, you must meet the following criteria:
1. You must be a citizen or legal permanent resident of Indonesia.
2. You must have at least two-year`s work experience in conservation activities.
3. You must be enrolled, be admitted, or have applied to a graduate degree program (master`s or PhD) at an institution of higher education by the application deadline AND you must plan to begin your studies no later than one year after the application deadline.
4. You must commit to working in conservation in Indonesia or a neighboring country in the region at least two yeras after the completion of your degree.
5. You must NOT have received a Russell E. Train Scholarship or Fellowship in the past. Those who have received EFN Professional Development Grants may apply for a Train Fellowship.
6. You must NOT be a full time employee of WWF. Consultans may apply.
7. Your field of study must pertain to one of the following:

* A natural science discipline relevant to sustainable natural resource management, ecosystem services or biodiversity conservation in the Heart of Borneo or Sumatra priority regions

* A social science discipline relevant to sustainable resource management, sustainable economic development or community-based participation in the Heart of Borneo or Sumatra priority regions

* Business planning, environmental economics and/or policy, or public-private partnerships that promote sustainable natural resource management or biodiversity conservation in the Herat of Borneo or Sumatra priority regions

* Endangered species protection: tigers, elephants, rhinos, or orangutans enforcement, and management in the Heart of Borneo or Sumatra priority regions

Trinity College intends to hold an election of Junior Research Fellows on 1 October 2007.

The purpose of Junior Research Fellowships is to offer men and women of exceptional calibre who are at an early stage of their academic careers an opportunity to pursue research for up to four years. Candidates must not have completed more than three-and-a-half years of full-time research by 1 October 2007. The Fellowships are available in all branches of University studies.

A Junior Research Fellow receives a stipend from the College of £21,067 per annum (reviewable in line with academic stipends), less any emolument received from a source outside College, provided that a Fellow who is registered for a further course of study in the United Kingdom (e.g. a Ph.D degree) will normally receive, instead of a stipend, a maintenance grant at the rate of £15,450 p.a. until completion of the course of study. In addition, such Fellows are entitled to rooms in College (subject to certain conditions) and may take meals at High Table free of charge. A Junior Research Fellow who is allocated a College flat is charged rent at the married student`s rate.

SINGAPORE: APEC Scholarships 2007-2008 Nanyang Technological University

Nanyang Technological University is offering a number of APEC Scholarships in academic year 2007-2008 to finance outstanding candidates from the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) member economies to pursue a full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme at the University. Singapore offered to host two regional education hubs in the areas of Business Studies and Public Policy at our two Universities [i.e. Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore]. A number of APEC Scholarships will be offered to outstanding candidates from APEC member economies to pursue a programme of study at one of these two hubs.

APEC Scholarship 2007 is tenable for 4 Trimesters (approximately 16 months) only. Successful candidates are expected to complete their studies within the tenable period with no bond attached to the scholarship.
Each scholarship shall cover the following :
(a) A monthly stipend of S$1,400.00;
(b) A one-time book allowance of S$500.00;
(c) Tuition fees and all compulsory miscellaneous fees, health insurance, and other approved fees, allowances and expenses;
(d) Cost of one overseas Business Study Mission undertaken within the tenable period of the scholarship;
(e) Cost of travel from home country to Singapore on award of the scholarship; and
(f) Cost of travel from Singapore to home country on successful completion of the MBA programme within the tenable period of the scholarship.

Applicants should have :
(a) a good bachelor’s degree;
(b) at least two years of management or professional experience;
(c) proficiency in the English Language; and
(d) an acceptable score in the Graduate Management Admission Test [GMAT]

Beasiswa BEOM Al Izhar Bagi Siswa SMP Aceh

Badan Eksekutif Orang Tua Murid (BEOM) Al Izhar memberikan beasiswa senilai Rp100juta pada 55 siswa SMP berprestasi di Banda Aceh melalui Sampoerna Foundation. Komitmen ini ditandai dengan ditandatanganinya nota kesepahaman antara Chief Operating Officer Sampoerna Foundation, Elan Merdy dengan Ketua BEOM Al Izhar, Elwani Anwar beberapa waktu yang lalu di Jakarta.

Sebanyak 55 siswa yang akan mendapatkan beasiswa adalah siswa-siswa berprestasi tingkat SMP dan berasal dari keluarga kurang mampu. Mereka akan mendapatkan beasiswa selama tiga tahun hingga menyelesaikan pendidikannya di SMP.

Data primer Depdiknas per April 2005 menyebutkan, ada lebih 17 ribu siswa yang tadinya bersekolah, kini tidak lagi bersekolah karena meninggal, trauma, ataupun karena keterbatasan biaya. Lebih dari itu, jumlah siswa yang drop out di Aceh hampir mencapai 40 ribu siswa pada tahun 2004-2005(pasca tsunami)

BEOM yang merupakan lembaga perkumpulan orang tua murid siswa SD hingga SMA AL Izhar, memang ingin berpartisipasi dalam peningkatan pendidikan di Indonesia. Menurut Elwani, jumlah siswa yang diberikan beasiswa memang masih jauh dari kebutuhan siswa-siswa Aceh pasca tsunami. “Tapi bagi kami, semoga saja ini bisa menjadi contoh BEOM di sekolah lain untuk berbuat yang sama. Tidak hanya di Aceh namun bisa juga di daerah lain.

Chief Operating Officer Sampoerna Foundation menyatakan bantuan beasiswa dari BEOM Al Izhar ini sangat berarti. Sebab bentuk bantuan selama ini untuk pendidikan di Aceh lebih banyak terfokus pada rekonstruksi dan rehabilitasi bangunan fisik sekolah. Sampai saat ini, Sampoerna Foundation bersama beberapa partner telah menyalurkan lebih dari 1350 beasiswa untuk siswa-siswa Aceh yang berprestasi dari tingkat SD sampai perguruan tinggi. Selain itu juga telah mengirimkan 4 siswa SMA Aceh yang berprestasi ke Singapura, Amerika, dan Kanada dalam program United World College.

You are required to acknowledge the e8 support when publishing or making presentations on your research and results. We may ask you to present your results at an e8 function, in which case your out of pocket expenses incurred to make the presentation will be covered by the e8.

The International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE) is an Australian government initiative to encourage excellence in tourism and hospitality education. We offer scholarships to international students who wish to study tourism and hospitality in Australia at THE-ICE member institutions. Our member’s programs are independently assessed by an international panel to meet THE-ICE Standards of Excellence These standards have been especially developed to endorse high quality tourism and hospitality program.

UK: British Scholarship for Aceh Students

British Universities Scholarship Scheme for Higher Education Institutions in Aceh, Indonesia 2005-2009

University of Birmingham is delighted to be a part of this consortium of twelve universities in Great Britain (Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield, Southampton and York). This consortium of UK Universities has established the British Universities’ Scholarship Scheme for Higher Education Institutions in Aceh, Indonesia. Each participating institution is offering one full Masters scholarship per year for the next four academic years (2005/06 to 2008/09).

The scholarship has two components : fee waiver and a living cost allowance. The scholarships are offered to Institut Agama Islam Negeri Ar-Raniry (IAIN), Banda Aceh, and to Universitas Syiah Kuala (UNSYIAH), Banda Aceh, with the specific objective of helping these two higher education institutions to strengthen the competence of their academic staff following the tsunami of 26th December 2005.

IAIN and UNSYIAH are invited to nominate candidates for the scholarships. University of Birmingham will then select candidates on the basis of their normal admission criteria. The British Council in Indonesia is generously supporting the Scheme by providing free English language tuition for candidates to bring them up to the IELTS standards required by the UK institutions. Furthermore, the British Embassy in Indonesia has confirmed that the visa fee for scholars from IAIN and UNSYIAH travelling to the UK through this Scheme will be waived.

The coordinating institution in the UK for this scheme is the University of Leeds. For further information about this scheme and on application process, please refer to contact details below.
Procedures
1) Initial applications are made by individuals in the two Aceh institutions. Each application is approved and endorsed by the Rector of the applicant’s own institution or the Dean of his or her own Faculty.
2) Applications are forwarded to University of Leeds by the applicant’s institution, preferably by email attachment or by fax. Preliminary allocations are made and the initial application forms are passed to University of Birmingham.

Beasiswa dari Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program

AWARDS
In Indonesia, the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program will select four Global Leaders from the participating universities. Global Leaders will receive their cash award and be invited to attend an interview in Indonesia in spring 2007. A selection panel will interview the Global Leaders and select two to receive an all-expense-paid trip to represent the group at the Global Leadership Institute in New York City in July 2007.
The Goldman Sachs Global Leaders selected to attend the Global Leadership Institute will participate in leadership training and seminars on timely international issues. They will consult with renowned leaders in the public, civic, and private sectors and build ties based on shared experiences and common goals. Activities for participants will include various cultural events in New York City. Global Leaders attending the Leadership Institute will be responsible for communicating the essence of the experience to the rest of the group.

PARTICIPATING UNIVERSITIES
IIE/Indonesia conducts the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders competition in Indonesia. The following institutions in Indonesia has been invited to participate in the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program this year:

* University of Gajah Mada, Yogyakarta
* University of Indonesia, Jakarta
* University of Pelita Harapan

ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS FOR THE INDONESIA COMPETITION
Students MUST be nominated by their universities in order to apply for this award. Each university will be asked to nominate a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 candidates who meet the eligibility criteria outlined below. University liaisons will submit a nomination form to IIE/Indonesia on behalf of each nominated student. The nomination deadline in Indonesia is December 28, 2006.

Only nominees will have access to the application; only those who meet the eligibility criteria described below will be considered for the award. Nominees need not be a citizen of the country in which they are applying. Nominees must:

* have distinguished themselves as leaders in their community or school;
* have high academic standing as demonstrated by grades received in the final year of secondary school (high school) and first year in college or university (and second year for select competitions). Eligible candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.4/4.0 or international equivalent, or be in the top 10% of his/her class;
* be full-time students in the second year of a university undergraduate degree program at one of the universities invited to participate in the 2006-2007 program year;
* be pursuing their first undergraduate degree; all fields of study accepted; and
* demonstrate competency in spoken and written English. Proficiency in English is necessary to participate fully in the Global Leadership Institute.

IIE uses the following information to evaluate applicants and select the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders:

* Electronic application and supporting documents
* Honors and awards
* Hobbies and extracurricular activities
* Community service and volunteer activities
* Personal Statement / Essay

COURSE OF ACTION FOR NOMINATED STUDENTS TO APPLY
Nominees must submit the following to IIE/Indonesia:

* A printed electronic application. The application must be completed and submitted online; a printed copy must also be sent to IIE/Indonesia with supporting documents.
* Undergraduate university transcripts (official record of grades or marks)
* Secondary school transcripts (official record of grades or marks)
* Two letters of recommendation. Recommenders must use the required recommendation forms that are distributed to the nominee. One recommendation should address the nominee's leadership abilities and personal character; the second letter should address the nominee's intellect and prospects for continued academic success. At least one letter must come from a university faculty member. The other letter may come from another university faculty member or an adult, non-family member who has supervised the nominee's education, work, or other activities. If the nominee's first language is not English, the letters should offer an assessment of his/her English language capabilities.
