We have an immediate opening for a student with a background in thin film physics or nanomaterials interested in pursuing a PhD or Masters at Queen’s University. We are particularly interested in those specializing in optics or photonics. Candidates require at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Materials Science or a related discipline.
Students will gain experience working in an exciting lab, exploring fundamental questions of chaos and fractal growth of nanomaterials, while developing useful applications in optics, photonic crystals, and electromagnetic devices. Students will gain experience with thin film fabrication and nanotechnology in a state-of-the-art cleanroom and use equipment including a variable-angle spectroscopic ellipsometer, a custom designed deposition system, and an atomic force microscope.

Skills that are beneficial include: hands-on experience in a research lab, experience in a thin film fabrication facility, experience with ellipsometry, strong optics and photonics training, Labview programming experience, strong computer skills, and a careful, methodical approach to research and the scientific method.

UK International Postgraduate Scholarships in Bristol University

Applicants can be from any country, but must be liable to pay the full international tuition fee.
Applicants must hold an offer for a Taught Postgraduate programme at the University of Bristol.

Applicants must have firmly accepted the offer made by the University of Bristol before submitting an application.
Conditional offer holders may apply for the scholarship but an award can only be made if conditions are met.
The deadline for applications is 30th June 2007 for those students commencing their studies in September 2007.
The scholarship application must be typed (or reasons for not doing so given) and must be a piece of original work signed by the applicant.
All scholarship applicants must agree to provide a student profile to be used in publications for the purposes of marketing the University of Bristol.
Current University of Bristol masters students are not eligible to apply.
Applicants who defer entry must apply for the academic year in which their studies will start.
There are 10 Scholarships worth £2000 each for a single programme of study. The amount will be deducted directly from tuition fees.
Scholarships are awarded by the 'International Recruitment Office' Scholarships Panel and all decisions are final.
Students will be notified in late September or early October if they have been successful and there will be a ceremony held early in the academic year to celebrate the awards.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), in co-operation with the Fraunhofer- Gesellschaft (FhG), invites applications for the 3rd Technopreneur Award 2007
Fields of Application: Plant Biotechnology and Biorenewable Chemicals from Vegetable Oil
The application deadline is Monday, 16 April 2007!
The award winner will receive a prize and a 4-month fellowship at one of the 56 Fraunhofer Institutes in Germany. The respective Fraunhofer Institute will provide scientific guidance and supervision in the candidates’ fields of interest.

The monthly stipend will be Euro 1.840. In addition, the international travel costs will be borne and the winner will receive Euro 3.000 prize money. Fraunhofer and DAAD will support the award winner in his/her efforts to develop marketable products from the research and help him/her establishing contact with potential co-operation partners in German companies which would be able to produce these products.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The £10,000 scholarship comprises two parts:
A lump sum scholarship component of approximately £6500 per year
A component of approximately £3500 per year comprising income from Graduate Teaching Assistant duties. These duties will consist of four hours of teaching per week during term time, two office hours per week during term time, and examination and coursework marking duties. Specific rates of pay and conditions will be specified by contract.


Applicants will be expected to apply to external sources of funding also; if they are successful, they will be expected to take up the external funding rather than the University of Birmingham scholarship.


The scholarship competition is open to Home, EU and International students, studying on a full time basis.


Existing Postgraduate Research students in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Birmingham are not eligible to apply.


A scholarship committee comprising the Head of Department, Director of the Graduate School, Director of Postgraduate Research and the Research Director, will select the successful applicants. Applicants may be required to participate in a telephone interview. The decision of the committee cannot be appealed.

Bagi masyarakat yang benar-benar ingin meningkatkan atau melanjutkan pendidikannya, namun memiliki kemampuan finansial (keuangan) nya sangat terbatas. Maka untuk lebih meringankan biaya pendidikannya, dapat mengajukan beasiswa ke KPT (Konsultan Pendidikan Tinggi).

Persyaratan:
1. Beasiswa ini hanya diperuntukkan bagi masyarakat yang kemampuan finansialnya benar-benar terbatas dan tidak mencukupi untuk membayar/mengangsur biaya pendidikan, sedangkan yang bersangkutan sangat ingin (memiliki motivasi tinggi) untuk melanjutkan/meningkatkan pendidikannya.

1. Indonesian citizen who is under 35 years of age when lodging the application.
2. Hold a Bachelor degree in any discipline from an Indonesian tertiary institution with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 (on a 4.00 scale)
3. Have a minimum of two-year full-time professional work experience after the completion of the undergraduate degree.
4. Have valid proof (validity of two years) of:
• International TOEFL with a minimum score of 600 (PBT) or 250 (CBT) or 100 (IBT), OR
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) of minimum 6.5 (for MBA Australia only)*
5. Have valid proof (validity of five years):
• GMAT test scores above 600 with verbal score to be 25 or above*
6. Not currently enrolled in graduate or post-graduate program, or has already obtained a Master’s degree or equivalent.
7. Not enrolled or graduated from an overseas tertiary institution, unless was on a full scholarship.
8. Not in receipt of other equivalent award or scholarship offering similar or other benefits at the time of the award.

Fulbright Science and Technology Scholarship Program FOR Ph.D. STUDY is announced the availability of approximately 25 awards to be competed worldwide under the aegis of International Fulbright Science and Technology Award for Ph.D. study at top U.S. institutions in science, technology, or engineering for the 2008-2009 academic year matriculants. The Fulbright Program in Indonesia promotes mutual understanding between the Republic of Indonesia and the United States of America through educational exchange and academic scholarship. Program Konservasi Spesies WWF-Indonesia berinisiatif mengundang mahasiswa/i sarjana (S1) dan pasca-sarjana tingkat akhir yang sedang atau akan menyelesaikan Tugas Akhir (skripsi/thesis/disertasi) untuk melaksanakan studi terkait pelestarian harimau Sumatera. Studi yang dilakukan akan mengidentifikasi aspek-aspek penting yang perlu dipertimbangkan dalam usaha pelestarian harimau Sumatera dan habitatnya sebagai bahan rekomendasi untuk pengelolaan yang lebih baik.

Kategori besarnya nilai beasiswa akan ditentukan berdasarkan kebutuhan dana yang terkait dengan tujuan, metode dan durasi penelitian yang diajukan oleh setiap pelamar, serta ketersediaan dana. WWF Indonesia akan mengutamakan pelamar yang memiliki sumber dana pendamping. Bagi pelamar yang berhasil, WWF Indonesia -Program Riau menyediakan dana hibah antara Rp. 5.000.000 (lima juta rupiah) hingga Rp. 15.000.000 (limabelas juta rupiah). Pembayaran akan dilakukan dalam beberapa tahap, dengan pembayaran terakhir diberikan setelah WWF menerima salinan berkas Tugas Akhir sesuai dengan proposal yang disampaikan.

Sebagai bahan kelengkapan dan pertimbangan, WWF Indonesia memerlukan beberapa persyaratan (dokumen) berupa:
1. Proposal singkat (max. 6 halaman kwarto) mencakup: Judul, latar-belakang, tujuan, metode yang akan digunakan, dan hasil yang diharapkan. (Penilaian akan ditekankan pada perumusan tujuan dan kejelasan metode.)
2. Rincian kebutuhan biaya dan jadwal rencana kerja (meliputi waktu pengumpulan data, analisa data, penulisan, dan seminar hasil)
3. CV pelamar, lengkap dengan alamat kontak
4. Surat referensi atau dukungan dari Jurusan/Fakultas tempat mahasiswa menempuh studi
5. Surat dukungan dari dosen pembimbing tugas akhir yang menyatakan kesediaannya untuk membimbing mahasiswa bersangkutan melakukan penelitian dan penulisan tugas akhirnya sesuai dengan proposal yang dikirimkan.

Each year the organisation of alumni, Leiden University Fund (LUF) awards LUF scholarships to outstanding foreign students pursuing a Masters Degree at Leiden University (See the list of eligible Masters programmes on www.postgraduate.leidenuniv.nl).

For 2007-2008, two scholarships are available for MA students in the Faculties of Theology, Archeology, and Philosophy together, and two scholarships each for the larger Faculties (Social and Behavioural Sciences, Arts, Law, Medicine, and Mathematics and Natural Sciences).
The LUF scholarship is open to talented students from all countries of the world except the Netherlands.

The scholarship consists of € 10.800,- for one academic year.

Deadline: 1 April 2007.

Requirements for eligibility:

1. The applicant has been admitted to an English language Masters programme of Leiden University on the basis of prior education outside the Netherlands.
2. The applicant must have obtained excellent results in his/her previous studies and be for instance in the top 10% of students in his/her programme.
3. The applicant’s studies in the Netherlands must constitute a deepening and broadening of his/her previous studies in the home country.

LIU Lit Mo Overseas Student Scholarships for Undergraduate Studies

The scholarships were established in the year 2005/06, with generous donation from Dr Liu lit-mo, MBE, JP. Scholarships of HK$100,000 each per academic year will be awarded to successful applicants, covering tuition fee, hostel and other academic and living expenses.
Each scholarship is offered on an annual renewable basis and is tenable for a period of up to 3 years, subject to continued outstanding academic performance.
The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has good academic standing and a good track record in community services. For candidates of comparable academic merits, the scholarship will be awarded to the candidate with better proven records of community services.

Eligibility
- An overseas student who wishes to pursue an undergraduate programmeat Lingnan University from September 2007 on a full-time basis leading to an honours degree may apply for the scholarship.
- Students who have completed or are studying for a curriculum relevant to the programme(s) for which they are applying for may apply for credit transfer. In Hong Kong, students follow a 7-year secondary education system and then a bachelor’s degree which normally requires three years of academic study.
- Students who have satisfactorily completed the 1st or 2nd year of a 4-year undergraduate curriculum may be admitted to the 1st or 2nd year of a Lingnan programme.

Note: The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Contemporary English and Education, which is a 4-year programme offered jointly by Lingnan University and the Hong Kong Institute of Education, is not applicable to applicants for the scholarship.

Organizing Committee and formal invitation will be sent by post. The
final paper has to be prepared in LaTeX or Ms. Word according to the

The Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) is used to evaluate whether international students who wish to study at the undergraduate level at universities or other such higher educational institutions in Japan possess the Japanese language skills and the basic academic abilities needed to study at those institutions.

EJU takes the place of both the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and the General Examination for Foreign Students (no longer administered as of December 2001), which many universities (undergraduate level) and other higher educational institutions in Japan previously required international students to take for admission. Starting in 2002, EJU will be administered twice a year (June and November) in Japan and other countries and regions. For a list of examination sites, see “Examination sites.”

EJU includes the following subject tests: Japanese as a Foreign Language, Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), Japan and the World, and Mathematics. Applicants select which subject tests to take based on the requirements of the Japanese university they wish to enter. The examination is available in Japanese or English, and applicants may specify, at the time of application, the examination language they wish to take (the Japanese as a Foreign Language test is administered in Japanese only).

ITALY: Scholarships at Alta Scuola Politecnica (ASP)

The Alta Scuola Politecnica (hereafter indicated as ASP) is launching a call for applications addressed to young talents who want to develop their interdisciplinary capabilities for leading and promoting innovation.

Founded by Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino, the ASP may be attended only by talents who enrol in one of their programmes of laurea specialistica (hereafter indicated as LS) in Engineering, Architecture or Design. The ASP, through a highly selective process, gives 150 promising students the opportunity to participate an additional advanced programme that runs in parallel to the LS programmes.

ASP students complement the knowledge achieved in their specific LS with a multifaceted and enriched understanding of innovation processes and contexts. They develop an interdisciplinary attitude to conceive, plan, implement and promote complex innovation projects that produce sustainable progress in economy, society and culture. The ASP is characterised by a multidisciplinary and multicultural community of students and professors, a prominent international Faculty, advanced seminars and study projects in close cooperation with business enterprises and governmental institutions.

There are 3 separate calls, each targeted to a specific group of students and with different deadlines:

1. a call reserved to foreign citizens (EU and extra EU), who have not graduated in Italy, deadline May 31st, 2007;
2. a call reserved to students who have graduated in Italy, not in the regions of Lombardia or Piemonte, to be issued on June 1st, 2007 with application deadline on July 15th, 2007;
3. a general call, open to all students and relative to all unassigned places after admitting students at calls n. 1 and n. 2 (at least 74 places available), to be issued on June 15th, 2007 with deadline September 15th, 2007.

The present call is call number 1, targeted to foreign citizens (EU and extra EU).

Number of Places
For the Academic Year 2007-2008, the ASP will enrol up to 150 students, 90 at Politecnico di Milano and 60 at Politecnico di Torino. The number of students enrolled may increase after this call, if further financial resources become available. Up to 38 places of the aforementioned are reserved to talented foreign students (EU and extra-EU citizens), 23 at Politecnico di Milano and 15 at Politecnico di Torino. This specific call concerns these 38 places reserved to foreign students.

Admission Fees
Students admitted in the Academic Year 2007-2008 will benefit from fee waiver for the two years of the ASP study programme.

Deadline for the Submission of Applications

1. The deadline for application for places reserved to foreign students is May 31st, 2007 and applicants will receive communication of acceptance before June 30th, 2007.
2. The application forms for admission to the selection have to be filled out on-line (www.asp-poli.it, Admission and Financial Aid section), printed on plain paper and signed, and have to be sent by regular/priority mail or by fax to the same university where the ASP candidate is also applying for the laurea specialistica (the Politecnico di Milano or the Politecnico di Torino)

Bagaimana Meraih Beasiswa di Luar Negeri?
MELANJUTKAN pendidikan tinggi, baik di dalam negeri maupun di luar negeri, merupakan dambaan setiap pelajar. Sayangnya, keinginan ini sering kali sulit terwujud akibat biaya kuliah yang mahal. Padahal untuk menyiasati biaya yang tinggi tersebut, kita bisa memanfaatkan program beasiswa yang ditawarkan sejumlah institusi, baik itu dari dalam negeri maupun dari luar negeri.

PARA penerima beasiswa Australian Partnership Scholarship (APS) 2005 sedang mendengarkan penjelasan dari Kooordinator Program AusAID di Jakarta, Mei lalu.*HUMINCA/"PR"
Sebagai contoh, institusi dalam negeri yang biasanya memberikan beasiswa, di antaranya Direktorat Pendidikan Tinggi (Dikti) Depdiknas yang bekerja sama dengan pihak swasta. Institusi tersebut menyediakan beasiswa untuk melanjutkan kuliah di dalam negeri dan luar negeri.

Sementara itu, pemberi beasiswa dari luar negeri, seperti Kedutaan Besar Singapura, Jepang, dan Australia, menawarkan beasiswa untuk studi di negara-negara tersebut. Hal ini bisa diketahui lewat situs kedubes. Program studi yang ditawarkan melalui beasiswa sangat beragam dan tidak melulu ditujukan untuk kuliah pascasarjana. Sejumlah beasiswa untuk S-1 bahkan untuk SMA pun disediakan.

Misalnya, Kementerian Pendidikan Singapura menawarkan beasiswa ASEAN (Perhimpunan Bangsa-bangsa Asia Tenggara) kepada sejumlah pelajar berprestasi untuk belajar di SMA ternama di Singapura. Bahkan, jika punya prestasi bagus, mereka dapat melanjutkan pendidikan tinggi secara gratis ke National University of Singapore (NUS) atau Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Beasiswa ini biasanya mulai dibuka Mei dan ditutup Juli setiap tahun. Para siswa SMP yang berminat melamar besaiswa tersebut, bisa mengakses situs Kedubes Singapura untuk mendapat keterangan lebih lanjut.

Selama ini, pemerintah Australia dikenal sebagai negara pemberi beasiswa terbesar. Setiap tahunnya melalui program ADS (Australian Development Scholarship) mereka memberikan beasiswa kepada 300-an orang untuk kuliah di negeri kanguru tersebut.

Bahkan, tahun lalu dan tahun ini, jumlah penerima beasiswa ditingkatkan menjadi 600 orang melalui program APS (Australian Partnership Scholarship). Pendaftaran untuk program ini mulai dibuka 8 Mei dan akan ditutup 7 Juli. Para peminat bisa mengakses situs: apsprogram.or.id atau adsjakarta.or.id.

Kuliah di luar negeri, bagi yang tidak memiliki biaya, sebenarnya bukan masalah, karena sejumlah program beasiswa dapat mengakomodasi keinginan tersebut.

Jumlah program beasiswa sangat terbatas, sedangkan peminatnya sangat banyak. Karena itu, sebelum diproses lebih lanjut, semua aplikasi beasiswa yang diterima akan diseleksi terlebih dahulu. Biasanya dalam proses seleksi tersebut ada dua tahap yang harus dilalui, yakni seleksi administrasi dan interview.

Ada beberapa hal yang perlu diketahui para pelamar beasiswa agar berhasil.

Pertama, berkaitan dengan seleksi administrasi. Kita jangan menganggap remeh proses pengisian aplikasi, karena apa yang kita tulis dalam formulir juga menjadi penentu keberhasilan kita selanjutnya. Misalnya, jika kita mengisi formulir aplikasi dengan data yang tidak lengkap serta tidak melengkapi dokumen-dokumen (fotokopi ijazah, sertifikat TOEFL/IELTS terbaru, akta kelahiran, dan lain-lain) yang diminta, kesempatan kita untuk memenangkan beasiswa pun akan hilang.

Kedua, seleksi wawancara. Biasanya tim pewawancara terdiri dari beberapa orang dan mereka ini berasal dari negara pemberi beasiswa. Dalam tahap ini, sejumlah pertanyaan akan diajukan kepada kita, di antaranya latar belakang pendidikan dan alasan kita mengambil program studi sebagaimana yang dicantumkan dalam formulir aplikasi. Untuk keperluan interview ini, ada baiknya kita berlatih berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris.

BERKAITAN dengan proses seleksi, Mida, pemenang beasiswa ADS 2006 asal Kota Padang saat dihubungi "PR" memberikan sejumlah tips tambahan bagaimana cara mendapat beasiswa.

Menurut Mida, sebelum melamar program beasiswa tertentu, pelamar harus memahami dengan benar bidang studi yang akan diambil. Misalnya, jika ingin mengambil Master of Applied Linguistic, pelamar harus tahu bahwa bidang studi yang dipelajari akan berkait dengan ilmu linguistik, di antaranya morfologi dan fonetik. Soalnya, hal yang demikian sering kali ditanyakan saat kita maju ke tahap wawancara.

Selain itu, kata Mida yang akan segera memulai studinya di University of Queensland pada semester dua ini, saat interview kita juga harus bisa menunjukkan pada pewawancara bahwa kita bisa berkomunikasi dengan baik, di antaranya menggunakan bahasa Inggris dengan lancar.

Selain itu, jika persyaratan beasiswa mengharuskan kita membuat proposal terkait dengan studi yang diambil, pastikan bahwa proposal tersebut memenuhi kaidah-kaidah akademik, seperti mencantumkan referensi dan menggunakan bahasa Inggris yang benar. (Huminca/"PR")***

The Eni Corporate University announces a competition for an academic course that leads to a Master’s Degree in Energy and Environmental Management and Economics - MEDEA. The course is organized and managed by the Scuola Enrico Mattei.

The Master is offered to Italian and foreign university graduates that are interested in career paths within firms, authorities and other institutions operating in the energy and environmental sectors. For the Academic Year 2007-2008, the Scuola Enrico Mattei will assign a maximum of 50 scholarships.

Three programs of the MEDEA are offered:
Energy Industry Economics
Business Administration in Energy Industry
Managing Technical Assets in Energy Industry
The program is articulated on three phases, with an increasing degree of specialisation. All profiles consist of preliminary courses, followed by fundamental courses and by specialisation classes.

The Academic Year runs for ten months, from September 5, 2007 through to June 27, 2008. Full-time attendance is required. Since courses are conducted in Italian and in English, an intensive Italian language course will be held during the summer of 2007. Those who have successfully completed the programme of study will be awarded a Master’s Degree in Energy and Environmental Management and Economics - MEDEA.

REQUIREMENTS
Admission is subject to the following requirements:

university degree in Italy, or an equivalent academic qualification abroad, in departments of: Business Administration, Chemistry, Economics, Engineering, Geology, Industrial Chemistry, International Law, Physics and Statistics;
Italian candidates must be under the age of 28 years and non-Italian candidates must be under the age of 32 at the beginning of the Master course;
good knowledge of the English language.
The course, moreover, can be attended also by people autonomously chosen by the Eni Companies.

APPLICATION AND SELECTIONS
The deadline for application is March 31, 2007 for foreign citizens and April 30, 2007 for Italian citizens. Italian candidates will attend the final selection in San Donato Milanese (MI); non-Italian candidates in Algeri, Almaty, Ankara, Beijing, Brussels, Budapest, Cairo, Lagos, London, Luanda, Madrid, Monaco, Moscow, New York, Sao Paulo, Tripoli, or in other offices of Eni, depending on their nationality.

GRANTS
For successful candidates, the admission to and the enrollment in the School carry no fees. The School offers students a financial contribution for the accommodation and living expenses. Moreover, students are given free training materials and the opportunity to avail themselves of Eni canteen facilities. Finally, scholarships are provided on the basis of examination results.

General description of the Master/PhD programme:
The candidate is expected to work full time (8h a day) during the four years to obtain his/her PhD. Depending on the diplomas owned by the candidate, he/she will have to follow a few courses equivalent to 60 ECTS from a Research Master in Electronic Engineering (in this case the students will obtain the title of Master in Electronics Engineering) before starting his/her research activities, which should lead to his/her thesis dissertation at the end of the fourth year. During the last two years, the candidate will be additionally funded to develop part of his research work at another European research institution for a duration of at least three months, so he/she can obtain a European PhD. certificate.

Profile of the candidate:
The optimal profile for the position would be a recent graduate in electronic engineering or chemistry or physics (chemistry, chemical engineering, analytical chemistry, biochemical engineering, electronic engineering, physics, etc.) willing to obtain his/her European Ph.D. degree in four years. The candidate should be able to economically sustain him/herself with the grant with no additional funding (something easy to do in Spain with such a grant). Applicants are expected to work in the following area: Development of Microsystems for chemical analysis (pre-concentrator systems, micro and nano gas sensors). Good level of English is required and good Spanish level would be appreciated too.
