MSc and PhD Studentships in Mathematics at National Autonomous University of Mexico

A number of fully funded PhD and Masters studentships are available within the Joint Postgraduate Program in Mathematical Science of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Campus Morelia, and the Michoacan University of San Nicolas of Hidalgo.

The PhD studentships are tenable for up to 3 years and have a stipend of 10,342 Mexican Pesos per month (816 US Dollars, equivalent to six Mexican minimum wages). The Masters studentships are tenable for up to 2 years and have a stipend of 7,757 Mexican Pesos per month (612 US Dollars, equivalent to four and a half Mexican minimum wages). Health coverage will be provided by the Mexican social security system.



Applicants should have or expect to gain a university degree in Mathematics or related discipline with an average of 8 or higher on a 10 point scale. Non-Spanish speakers are expected to become proficient in Spanish within two years.

The preferred starting date is 16th August 2010. Deadline for applications is 21st May 2010. The entrance exam is scheduled for 5th June 2010. Foreign students are required to arrange for a faculty member to supervise the exam at their home institution.

A complete application includes a covering letter addressed to the Comité Académico del Posgrado en Matemáticas specifying contact details, CV, copies of university degrees, a copy of an identity document (passport, driving licence, etc), and contact details of two academic referees. Panasonic Scholarship 2010 for Indonesian Students

The Panasonic Scholarship Program was established in 1998 in commemoration of the company`s 80th anniversary as a way for the company to express its appreciation to society. Its aim is to provide scholarship opportunities to privately financed students from Asian countries who wish to pursue a master`s course in Japan, to offer financial assistance to foster highly educated experts who can contribute to the development of their countries in the 21st century, and to promote mutual friendship between their home countries and Japan.
Eligibility
A privately financed student from Indonesia, who wishes to pursue a master`s course in Japan, should meet the following requirements:

Nationality:
Applicants must be citizens of Indonesia

Educational Background etc:
Applicants must be graduates or pending graduates of universities and have a distinguished academic record and must have completed 16 years of school education or have been accepted as eligible for enrollment at the targeted graduate schools. However, applicants must have completed their bachelor degrees no more than 4 years prior to the date of their arrival in Japan. (with age less than 26 years old in March 2011).

Specialization:
Applicants must major in any one of the science and technology disciplines. (Mathematics, Natural Science, Engineering, Bio-technology, Agricultural, and IT (Information Technology)
Note: This excludes medical science, pharmacology and dentistry

Japanese Language Proficiency:
Applicants must have adequate proficiency and knowledge in the Japanese language not only for studying at master`s level but also for understanding Japanese culture.

Health Conditions:
Applicants must be medically fit and must be strongly motivated to study in Japan.

Others:
1. Applicants must be interested in and have the desire to contribute to the development of Indonesia and to promote friendship between Indonesia and Japan.
2. Applicants must obtain a study visa and arrive in Japan by end of March 2011 to attend the award ceremony to be held at Panasonic Headquarters at the beginning of April 2011.
3. Applicants who are receiving or will receive other scholarships including Japanese Government Scholarships are not eligible for the Panasonic Scholarship.
4. Applicants who are already enrolled at graduate schools in Japan at the time of application are not eligible for the Panasonic Scholarship.

Number of students to be accepted
From all applicants, in preliminary stage (phase I) it will be only top 100 candidates enter to next stage. In phase II, there will be only 12 best candidates as finalist. In final stage, through interview, group discussion and other process, the 3 most qualified finalist will be selected to be Panasonic Scholarship Nominees.

Duration of Panasonic Scholarship
Panasonic Scholarship will be provided for three years from April 2011 to March 2014, which covers
Year One — Enrollment as research students in universities in Japan and Japanese-language training in Japanese-language institutes.
Year Two & Three — Register and complete master`s course in Japan. The entire period shall not exceed three years in any circumstances.

2.1 Research Student of Graduate School
Basic Scholarship : ¥150,000 per month
Tuition Assistance : Actual Amount (a maximum of ¥200,000 to be paid each half year)

2.2 Master`s Course of Graduate School
In the case where students are able to take master`s courses within one year after arrival in Japan, the scholarship to be paid is as set out below.
Basic Scholarship : ¥180,000 per month
Entrance Fee Assistance : Actual Amount (a maximum of ¥250,000 to be paid)
Tuition Assistance : Actual Amount (a maximum of ¥250,000 to be paid per each half year)

Selection & notification

Phase I
March 10 , 2010 : Deadline for e-Application Submission

Phase II April 15 –20 , 2010 : The First Screening (By documents)
May 7 – 11 , 2010 : The Second Screening

Phase III June 7 – 8 , 2010 : Final Selection (Interview)

Requirements for Panasonic Scholarship Student (Nominated)
1. Enrollment in Graduate School and Duration of Research
Panasonic searches a student with passion for studying at graduate school for 3 (three) years. In concrete, Panasonic searches those who; obtain an informal consent from the academic adviser and finish application for enrollment as a research student within 2010, enroll in graduate school as a research student in April 2011, then enroll in a master`s course in April 2012 and complete a mater`s degree in March 2014.

2. Japanese Language Proficiency Test
Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) are required to obtain a certain level (Level-3 of Current Test, N4 of New Test) or above for Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) conducted in Indonesia at the beginning of December 2010. In line with this, Panasonic recommends a student who has never learned Japanese to start a preparation for Japanese learning before attending the final interview. Besides, it is said that a student enrolling in a master`s course should reach a certain level (Level-1 of Current Test, N1 of New Test) or above for JLPT in order for them to successfully study and research at graduate school. Master Scholarship in Various Programme by Dutch Government (StuNed Programme)

StuNed, Studeren in Nederland, is a scholarship programme focusing on mid-career professionals, as part of the bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands. The scholarship programme aims to contribute to the development of Indonesia through strengthening the human resources of Indonesian organisations. Individual applicants may apply for master degree or short courses in the Netherlands, whilst institutions may apply through the StuNed Group Application and/or for refresher courses.
The StuNed programme is supporting the Dutch policy for development co-operation with Indonesia and aims to contribute to the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals in 2015. The framework for the bilateral relations between the Netherlands government with Indonesia is laid down in the Multi-Annual Strategic Plan 2008-2011 (MASP). The overall objective is to strengthen bilateral relations and to support Indonesia in realizing its medium term development goals. The MASP aims to achieve the the following four strategic goals:



1. Improved democracy, stability, human rights and governance, resulting in a just and safe society;
2. Improved economic governance, resulting in sustainable economic growth and an equal distribution of growth through society, in order to decrease poverty more rapidly;
3. Improved environmental and climate policy and implementation, resulting in increased use of renewable energy, sustainable management of natural resources, reducing emissions of greenhouse gas and adaptation to climate change;
4. Intensified bilateral relations through a `comprehensive partnership framework`.

The StuNed programme focuses on generating and strengthening institutional capacity in support of the above mentioned strategic goals. Related study fields are: education, rural development, environment, water management and sanitation, trade, good governance and human rights, gender, and culture.

Candidate`s profiles
The target group for the StuNed scholarships programme will be Indonesian mid-career professionals. Priority will be given to candidates from Indonesian partner organisations of the Dutch Embassy: ministries, local governments, NGOs and in some cases also the private sector.

The ideal StuNed candidates is strongly committed to develop human resources in Indonesia; to increase the institutional capacity of the Indonesian partner organizations; to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands, and the effectiveness of the existing cooperation projects.

Eligible courses
In general, all international training and degree courses offered by Dutch providers are eligible, as long as the chosen programme is in line with the priority areas as mentioned in the Multi Annual Strategic Plan (MASP) 2008-2011. An overview of these courses can be found in www.studyinholland.nl

StuNed for Master Degree Programmes
Main requirements to apply:

- be an Indonesian national;
- have earned a S1 or Bachelor`s degree or its equivalent at a recognized university in Indonesia; be able to provide evidence of the academic achievements (minimum G.P.A. score 2.75):
- relevant work experience for at least two years;
- have an academic or professional background that is related to the subject of the course;
- be full time available for the entire period of the study programme or course and be able to participate in and complete all courses;
- TOEFL Computer based 213, or ITP 550, IELTS 6)
- be admitted to one of the courses or programmes offered by Institutes of Higher Education in the Netherlands for the academic year 2010;
- no age limit, but priority will be given to mid-career professionals.

Eligible study programmes
All master courses in www.studyinholland.nl with a duration of less then two years, and with a clear relation to the objectives of the StuNed programme.

StuNed for Tailor-Made Training Programmes
Institutions, consortia and functional networks (hereafter called institutions/networks) may submit a collective application for staff upgrading. Training needs can consist of existing master courses (including the Dutch part of a double degree programmes) and short courses or tailor made programmes.

Priority will be given to the Indonesian partner organisations of the Dutch Embassy. Institutions and other organization related to the development sectors which are mentioned in the MASP are also eligible.

Tailor made programmes are defined as short courses of which the starting date, location and/or time frame is adjusted to the institutions requirements. The programme may take place entirely or partly in Indonesia or the Netherlands.

Refresher Courses
The refresher course is designed for the Dutch alumni and StuNed alumni in particular. The aim of refresher courses is to refresh and up-date the alumni with the latest knowledge and skill in their fields. Priority will be given to issues relate to the MASP.

Proposal may be requested by the institutions where the alumni work for. The entirely programme will be held in Indonesia for two weeks.
