Beasiswa: Berlin Scholarships 2009 Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

Berlin Scholarships 2009: For the academic year 2009/2010 Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin once again announces 30 “Berlin Scholarships” with the support of the Foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future”.

The Program
Berlin-Scholarships by the Foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future”
The international program “Berlin Scholarships” allows students to study for one year at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin or at one of its partner institutions: Freie Universität Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Universität der Künste Berlin, and Fachhochschule für Wirtschaft Berlin. Along with their studies in Berlin the scholarship holders will work in groups together on a project with the topic “Excluded and Persecuted: Finding Responses to the Experience in 20th Century Europe”.
Scholarship holders will have the opportunity to carry out their study proposals by attending courses at one of the five partner institutions in Berlin. International applicants’ study proposals should be developed according to their home university’s academic requirements.

Students born or raised in Germany will simply continue their regular studies in Berlin. The program begins on September 1, 2009 and ends on July 31, 2010.

Annual Topic

“Excluded and Persecuted: Responses to the Experiences in 20th Century Europe”

The 20th century was marked by periods of violence and injustice caused by the exclusion and persecution of various political, religious, and ethnical groups. While applicable to dictatorships in other European countries, this is particularly true for the period of National Socialism in Germany during which the domestic process of exclusion and persecution was universalized with the beginning of World War II in 1939.

The project is centered around the question of how we are to deal with this kind of historical injustice today. To what extent do current legislation, educational systems, national or international conventions and acts of public remembering reflect these experiences of tyranny?

How relevant are the experiences of the past to anti-discriminatory organization? How do artists reflect historical injustice and what are the conclusions they draw from their work?
And which questions still remain unanswered?
The goal of the project is to critically look at historical research, political debates, art and literature to see how much has been learned from the past.

Application Requirements
The program is directed at students from all fields of study, who have a special interest in the history of National Socialism. We strongly encourage descendants of victims of forced labor and other victims of the National Socialist regime to apply. Additionally, applicants should have an excellent student record, a good command of German, and should be involved in societal engagements.

Along with their applications, applications are asked to submit first ideas and suggestions for the project work emphasizing their interest in the annual topic. Projects will be worked on together in small groups. Based on common interests and students’ initial ideas, project groups will be defined at the beginning of the semester within the framework of the project seminar.

The Scholarship
The scholarship covers a one-year study enrollment, a monthly stipend of 700 Euros for the duration of 11 months, and an accompanying program of social and cultural activities throughout the year.

GRE

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test is required; neither the GMAT nor GRE Subject Test is accepted for review. Applications will not be considered complete until an official copy of test scores is received by the institute. GRE scores will not be accepted if they are more than five years old.

Use Institution Code #2074 and Department Code #0404 (Information Sciences) to submit your GRE General Test scores through the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

To ensure that GRE scores reach the INI office before the application deadline, applicants should take the test no later than April 15.

TOEFL

All applicants whose native language/mother tongue is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants who took the TOEFL in 2006 may still submit CBT (computer-based test) or PBT (paper-based test) scores. The INI will accept the PBT scores if the Internet-based test (iBT) is not offered in the applicant’s country.

Use Institution Code #8569 and Department Code #99 to submit your TOEFL score report. Admission decisions on applications without the required test scores may be delayed.

Applicants who have attended and graduated from a four-year undergraduate degree program at an accredited U.S. university may have this requirement waived.

Beasiswa S2: Master Degree Scholarships Marywood University

2009-2010 Graduate Scholarship Application
Master’s Degree, Educational Specialist Degree, and Post-Baccalaureate Certification Students
(Not School of Social Work Students, Speech-Language Pathology Students, and
Physician Assistant Students)
All material must be submitted by February 14, 2009.

Awards will be made on the basis of three factors: academic promise, normally represented by a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or a graduate GPA of 3.50; professional focus and commitment; and financial need
(required for specific scholarships).

File a complete admissions application. It is fully expected that each prospective student who is a scholarship applicant will have a complete admissions application on file with the Office of Graduate Admissions by February 14, 2009. The admissions application provides the supporting documentation necessary to evaluate a scholarship application.

Complete the scholarship application electronically. The scholarship application itself is on a secure server. You must press “yes” if your browser asks you if you wish to display secure items, otherwise Marywood University will not receive any of the information you type on the application upon submission.

If you declare full-time status on the scholarship application, enrollment in nine or more credits in the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 semesters or what your graduate department defines as full enrollment in structured programs, and are awarded a full-time status scholarship and enroll for less than full-time registration in either of these semesters your scholarship award will be reduced.

If you declare part-time status on your scholarship application, The Committee on Graduate Scholarships expects part-time status students who are scholarship recipients to enroll in and maintain at least six credits in the fall semester and at least six credits in the spring semester. Part-time status scholarship recipients who fail to meet this requirement in a semester will have their scholarships rescinded for that semester.

Email a scholarship essay as a Microsoft Word document. Please type an essay (300-500 words) clarifying the relationship between your life-goals and graduate education at Marywood. Your essay will also be judged on depth of expression and use of the English language. Your essay must clearly address the following areas:

1. Describe your professional work background and experience.
2. Describe your community leadership activities. Indicate if a volunteer activity.
3. Describe any commendations and appreciation awards as well as undergraduate and graduate academic awards and honors.
4. Describe any special projects, demonstrations, workshops, recitals, exhibits, or whatever may be appropriate to your area to indicate your abilities and interests.
5. What are your short and long range career goals and objectives?
6. What attracted you to your Marywood program as a vehicle for achieving your goals?

Email the essay in Microsoft Word to gradscholarship@marywood.edu. Your essay should contain your name, social security number, and field of study at the top of the page.

If you have any questions about completing these forms, please contact Mr. Frank Falcone at gradscholarship@marywood.edu or (570) 348-6211 ext. 2356.

Scholarship selection results will be mailed in early April 2009. Scholarships are available for use beginning Fall 2009; they may only be used to defray tuition for Marywood courses.

Students awarded graduate assistantships for the 2009-2010 academic year who accept those positions are not eligible to receive scholarship awards as well.

Marywood University undergraduate students who are enrolled in formal five-year programs are automatically eligible for at least forty percent of their undergraduate merit award or higher for their fifth year of study at the graduate level provided they are admitted to the master’s level by their academic department.

Neither scholarship nor assistantship awards are renewed automatically each year. It is the responsibility of the student to reapply each academic year.
