ANZCA International Scholarship for 2012 in Australia or New Zealand
The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists invites suitable applicants for the ANZCA International Scholarship
for 2012.
This prestigious award is directed at anaesthetists/pain medicine specialists who are destined to be medical leaders in their home countries. The scholarship is offered to a recently qualified specialist (up to 40 years of age) from a developing country. It is intended to provide an opportunity for the specialist to develop skills to manage a department, act as a role model to local clinicians and promote education and training in their home country.
The scholarship is tenable for up to one year in a department of a major hospital in Australia or New Zealand. It covers travel expenses between the home country and Australia or New Zealand. A living allowance will be provided. During the tenure of the scholarship it is expected that the appointee will attend the annual scientific meeting of the College
and other relevant activities.
OBJECTIVES
The scholarship is designed to increase the recipient’s capacity to advance anaesthesia and/or pain medicine for the benefit of his or her community. The scholarship will provide an opportunity for the recipient to improve knowledge, skills and attributes across the following roles:
Medical expert in anaesthesia and/or pain medicine
Communicator and collaborator
Manager
Health advocate
Scholar and teacher
Professional
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants are required to satisfy the following criteria:
A graduate of his or her country’s specialty training program to local fellowship or masters level.
Aged between 25 and 40 years.
Citizenship of a developing country.
Must not have residency status in Australia or New Zealand.
Meets the relevant Australian and New Zealand government immigration requirements.
Meets the eligibility criteria imposed by the government of his or her country of citizenship.
Adequate knowledge of the English language to satisfy Australian or New Zealand medical registration requirements (e.g. IELTS)
Capacity to become a leader in anaesthesia and/or pain medicine in his or her own country.
Timely submission of a detailed application on the appropriate form, supported by sponsorship statements and contact details of referees.
Ability to commence the scholarship in the calendar year for which it is offered.
Must not hold another scholarship during the period of this scholarship.
The closing date for applications is Friday, August 12. No late applications will be considered.
