European Master in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis at Erasmus Mundus AFEPA

European Master in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis at Erasmus Mundus AFEPA

Overview
The European Master in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis aims at providing a high quality education in designing and assessing public policies targeted to the agricultural and food sector as well as the rural environment. This European Master responds to the increasing need to better understand and anticipate the various and often complex socio-economic and environmental effects of these policies either in a functioning market economy as in the European Uni0n or in economies in a development or transition phase. The European Master offers a two-year academic curriculum with integrated and advanced theoretical, methodological and empirical courses in economics and quantitative methods as well as in agricultural, food and environmental sciences, agricultural and trade policy, environmental and natural resource policy, rural development policy and agribusiness management and market analysis. To connect theory and methodology to practice, a problem solving project is developed and presented as a master thesis at the end of the two-year curriculum.

The European Master is jointly organised by five leading European educational and research institutions: the Corvinius University of Budapest (CUB) in Hungary, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Sweden, the Rheinische-Friedrich-Wilhelms Universität Bonn (UBonn) in Germany, the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) in Belgium and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Spain. These five partner universities are recognised worldwide for the quality of their educational programme and scientific achievements in agricultural, environmental and economic sciences. The required 120 ECTS credit points are structured into three blocks: a minimum of two semesters of studies (55 ECTS) at a first partner university, as well as two semesters of studies (60 ECTS) at a second partner university, and two joint summer schools (5 ECTS) at partner universities. The language of instruction and examination is English for most of the courses in three partner universities while it is either French at UCL or Spanish at UPC for most of the courses. The Master degree is awarded as a double degree from the two home and host universities.

This European Master is accessible to candidates holding a bachelor degree or a recognized equivalent academic degree with a minimum of 180 ECTS or 3 years university study from an accredited institution, with sufficient undergraduate training in economics and agricultural or environmental sciences, with an excellent scholastic average, and with fluency in English but also French or Spanish if attending either UCL or UPC respectively.

Recipients of this European Master are qualified to understand the fundamentals of public policies oriented to the agricultural and food sector, rural areas and natural resources, develop and use quantitative methods to perform rigorous socio-economic and environmental assessment of these public policies, and provide sound and relevant policy recommendations for a more sustainable development of this sector and rural areas. They are qualified to take responsibilities in international, national and regional agencies, non-governmental organisations, consultancy firms, professional organisations and private companies.

Erasmus Mundus Master for Laboratory Accreditation-Quality in Analytical Laboratories

Overview
EMQAL is a master course for laboratory managers and scientists who wish to implement and manage Quality Systems in analytical laboratories, or work in Quality System environments in accredited analytical laboratories.

The master is offered by a Consortium of five European universities and one Chinese university:
University of Algarve (Portugal, PT)
University of Barcelona (Spain, ES)
University of Bergen (Norway, NO)
University of Cadiz (Spain, ES)
Gdask University of Technology (Poland, PL)
Central South University (China, CN)

Applicants are divided into two categories: Category A and Category B. – Category A applicants come from a Third Country and were not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in an European Country. Third Country means a country that is not a European Country”. More concretely, the Erasmus Mundus programme distinguishes three different groups of countries:
a) The Members states of the European Uni0n;
b) Other countries or potential candidates possibly on the same footing as Member States (this category includes Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244/99, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey and Switzerland); these countries are considered as third countries unless there is an establishment of the participation of the country concerned in the EM programme
c) Third countries.

– Category B applicants do not fulfill the Category A criteria defined above.

Scholarship
The European Commission provides a limited number of grants (ERASMUS MUNDUS studentships) for selected Category A and Category B students.

A Category A EM studentship for EMQAL totals 38000€ and covers:
payment of the tuition fees for the whole EMQAL course (12000€)
travel expenses (2000 €)
A monthly allowance of 1333.33 € /month, for 18 months.

This may be a degree in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering, Clinical Analysis, Medicine, etc.
Demonstrated command of the English language- this means the candidate must prove he/she can understand, speak and write English proficiently enough to take the majority of modules, which are taught in English. (TOEFL scores paper 575 / computer 232, Internet based TOEFL (TOEFL iBT™ ) total score 94, International English Language Testing System, IELTS scores 6.5, etc.)
Adequate financial resources
When you apply there is no guarantee that you will be considered for an ERASMUS or ERASMUS MUNDUS studentship so you should be fully aware of the financial costs of the programme. All candidates must take the financial aspects in consideration when applying. The studentships are extremely competitive and only the very best students in a field of many excellent applicants will be awarded the studentships. You should indicate clearly if you are relying on ERASMUS, ERASMUS MUNDUS or other studentships to finance your study. Individuals who have already benefited from an Erasmus Mundus Master studentship are not eligible for a second studentship in order to follow EMQAL. One individual may apply only to a maximum of three Erasmus Mundus Master courses at the same time. Candidates who do not comply with this rule may have their applications cancelled by the EACEA.

How to apply?
The application is made online, and is the same for European and Non-European candidates. Please register at this website. You will then be sent an email with instructions on how to complete the online application form.

After completing your online application you are required to send the the following documents:

Your application will only be complete when we receive these documents. You are required to send a pdf file containing copies of these documents by email to EMMQAL@gmail.com and a hard copy of all documents by post mail (stamp date before the deadline for applications) to the address displayed below. Obligations as a Scholarship Holder
Scholarship holders must live in Switzerland at the study place and must comply with the laws concerning the residence of foreigners in Switzerland and the university regulations. The FCS does not have the authority to decide on the possibility of bringing the family of the scholarship holder to Switzerland. This is left to the Federal Migration Office, which at present deals with requests very restrictively. As a rule, family members cannot be brought to Switzerland during the first year of study.

When accepting the scholarship, candidates have to give their written agreement to return to Indonesia after completion of the scholarship in Switzerland.

Scholarships of the FCS cannot be coupled with other grants. If a scholarship holder benefits from another scholarship or other financial means (salary), he has to choose between the FCS scholarship and the other source of income.

Beasiswa S2: Master Grants at University of Lausanne, Switzerland

Master Grants at University of Lausanne

Overview
To facilitate access to Master`s degrees by students with qualifications from foreign universities, the University of Lausanne makes available around ten Master`s grants which are awarded on a competitive basis. Founded in 1537, the University of Lausanne is composed of seven faculties where approximately 12,400 students and 2,300 researchers work and study. Emphasis is placed on an interdisciplinary approach, with close cooperation between students, professors and teaching staff.

Programmes concerned
Candidates must choose a Master`s programme from among those offered by the UNIL, except the Master of Medicine. The grant may not be used for any complementary studies required to enroll on the Master`s degree and may not be used for EMBAs or Masters of Advanced studies.

Scholarship
The amount of the grant is CHF 1,600.- per month from 15 September to 15 July, for a duration not exceeding the regulation minimum period of the programme (according to the programme, one-and-a-half years or two years subject to deduction for paid placements or exempt semesters, if any). Abandonment of the programme results in suspension of the grant.

Eligibility
The candidate must be the holder of a degree from a foreign university.
The qualification held by the candidate must be deemed equivalent to the UNIL Bachelor`s degree.
How to apply?
Candidates complete the “UNIL Master`s Grant” form (can be downloaded here) and submit their application to the Office for socio-cultural affairs (SASC, Unicentre, University of Lausanne, CH-1015 Lausanne, info.sasc@unil.ch) by 15 December 2011 at the latest. All the documents that need to be sent with the application can be found in the application form found above. The application is examined by the University Rectorate to determine whether the candidate is admissible. In the event of a positive decision, the application is forwarded by the SASC to the UNIL Faculty responsible for the Master`s on which the candidate wishes to be enrolled. The Faculty selects applications and notifies the SASC of its opinion based on the candidate`s qualities, motivation and suitability for the Master`s programme. The SASC forwards shortlisted applications to the selection committee which will award grants to students meeting all criteria according to the available budget.

Selection criteria
The grants are intended more particularly for students who distinguished themselves in their university studies and who have difficulty meeting their financial needs for the duration of the Master`s. It is however necessary that the candidates have sufficient financial means to support themselves during the complementary studies that may be required prior to enroll on the Master`s degree.

Bachelor, Master & PhD Scholarships for Students from Developing Countries at SIU, Norway

Bachelor, Master & PhD Scholarships for Students from Developing Countries at SIU

Overview
The Norwegian government provides students from developing countries in the South and countries in the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and in Central Asia (to view the list of countries, please click here) with financial support to study for a degree in Norway under the Quota Scheme.

The Quota Scheme currently provides funding for a total of 1,100 students, 800 of them from developing countries in the South and 300 from countries in the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and in Central Asia. The Scheme is quite popular both with the Norwegian institutions involved and among eligible students, most of whom are highly qualified in their field of study. Every year the number of applicants far exceeds the number of students admitted under the scheme.

The main objective of the Quota Scheme is to contribute to capacity building through education that will benefit the home country of the students when they return. The Quota Scheme is also intended to strengthen relations between Norway and the selected countries and thus contribute to internationalisation at Norwegian institutions of higher education.

Most universities and university colleges in Norway participate in the Quota scheme. The institutions involved are allocated a certain number of students under the programme each year. The scheme normally includes courses at Master`s and Ph.D. level in addition to certain professional/Bachelor`s degrees. Most of the Norwegian institutions offer courses and educational programmes in English. To find more detailed information about the study programmes, available courses, admission requirements and application procedures concerning the Quota Scheme, please follow these links: click here (to see the participation institutions` websites); click here (to see Master`s programme catalogue).

Scholarship
The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund is responsible for managing the financial support provided for the Quota students. Each student receives the same amount of money as a Norwegian student would do in an equivalent educational programme. About 30 per cent of the amount is given as a grant and 70 per cent as a loan. However, the loan portion may be waived when the student returns to his/her home country after completing the course of study. Students who stay in Norway after finishing their studies or take up residence in another country than their home country must repay their loan. Normally, the financial support given will not exceed a time span of four years for one definite study plan or a combination of two programmes. Part-time studies are not supported.

Travelling expenses for entry into Norway may be reimbursed (fixed price). Students can apply for one annual home visit if the educational programme lasts longer than one year and for financial support for travelling expenses for field work during the course of study. When the student returns home within 3 months after finishing his/her studies, the cost of travelling home is covered by the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund.

Eligibility
The Quota Scheme will only enrol students from institutions (organisations, universities, authorities) which have collaboration agreements with Norwegian universities or university colleges. Norwegian institutions usually do not admit free movers (individual applicants) to this scheme. Only in very special cases will free movers be considered. Please contact the institutions directly for individual information. To find out which institutions collaborate with Norwegian institutions, please refer to the websites of the Norwegian institutions (the list of Norwegian institutions can be downloaded from the above link). You could also ask your home institution about whether they have any sort of collaboration with Norwegian universities / university colleges from the list of participating institutions.

As a student, you must apply directly from your home country. You must have stayed at least one year in your home country directly prior to the planned course of study at the Norwegian university /university college. Students usually apply for degree programmes that serve as a continuation of their studies in their home country or for courses which can be a joint part of a degree programme in their home country.

All candidates should typically have the following basic qualifications:
Secondary school certificates
Minimum two years of higher education from their home country
Some exceptions apply for certain professional educational courses at Bachelor`s level.

The GSU-list (has been compiled by the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education – NOKUT) with the general entrance requirements for applicants with higher education qualifications from abroad can be found here (here you can find general requirements for the particular countries in order to study in Norwegian university).

Most of the study programmes offered under the Quota Scheme are taught in English. Applicants who are not native English speakers therefore must document their proficiency in English. Requirements may differ between institutions and various study programmes. Please see the university /university college`s website for more details about language requirements.

How to apply?
All inquiries should be directed to the International Office at the institution in question. Applications should be sent directly to the institutions and SIU is not responsible for received applications.

The deadline for applications for the Quota scheme is usually 1 December 2011. Some courses and educational programmes may have other deadlines.

It provides a detailed and systematic understanding of how political institutions, processes and public policies operate and interact from the global political economy through to national and local levels with a direct focus on European engagements at these levels of governance. Inter-disciplinarity and practical application of conceptual knowledge are hallmarks of Mundus MAPP.

Four leading European universities joined forces to deliver Mundus MAPP: Central European University in Budapest (Hungary), Institut Barcelona d`Estudis Internacionals (Spain), the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University in the Hague (Netherlands), and the University of York (UK). Building on Mundus MAPP`s successful track record, the integrated curriculum provides a uniform core of policy studies as well as modules specific to particular mobility tracks, drawn predominantly from the fields of International Relations, European Studies and Development Studies. The four mobility tracks allow students to specialise in Political Economy and Development, Governance and Development, and European and Global Public Policy, respectively. Each mobility track includes a field trip to a relevant public sector organisation and an internship.

Mundus MAPP`s unique combination of strong conceptual foundations with practice and policy-oriented learning will provide graduates with transferable skills and subject-specific knowledge for embarking on or furthering professional careers as policy-makers, policy-analysts and advisors in the civil service, international organisations or the corporate and non-governmental sectors, and for enrolling in doctoral programs in a range of relevant subjects. Mundus MAPP graduates will have a thorough knowledge of European policy making milieus and solid institutional and personal networks that will take them forward to leadership roles and constructive future engagements within Europe and the rest of the world.
