UK: PhD Studentship Hormone Replacement Therapy - Postgraduate Medical School 2007

Applications are invited from suitably qualified graduates (2:1 or above) for a full-time PhD studentship to work on the efficacy and safety of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). HRT has been used widely for the relief of menopausal symptoms and the prevention and treatment of post-menopausal osteoporosis.

Publication and interpretation of results from the Women`s Health Initiative (WHI) and the Million Women Study (MWS), however, has created uncertainty about the safety of HRT amongst both clinicians and patients. The successful applicant will use data from the General Practice Research Database in an epidemiological study to describe the use of HRT, its efficacy and associated risks. There will be a particular focus on how the use of HRT affects the risk of acute myocardial infarction and breast cancer.

The successful applicant will be registered for a PhD (MPhil in the first instance) in the Postgraduate Medical School, University of Surrey. The studentship is available for three years and provides a postgraduate stipend starting from £12,500 per annum.


The post will be based in the Department of Pharmacoepidemiology at the University of Surrey`s Postgraduate Medical School (PGMS), a research-led facility for translational medical research and postgraduate teaching. The successful applicant will work under the day-to-day supervision of the Head of Department (Dr C de Vries) and in close collaboration with Professor Farmer and Dr Stevenson. Potential applicants should note that this PhD studentship is research-based and a capacity and aptitude for independent learning is essential. The work will involve epidemiological design and analysis of a relational medical database and therefore, prior experience with data manipulation in relational database management programmes such as Microsoft Access is advantageous. The successful applicant will be expected to submit research work for publication and for presentation at national and international conferences and to be available to travel within or outside the UK as necessary. In addition, the successful applicant will contribute to and participate in the Department`s in-house training program (teaching sessions, journal club).

PGMS achieved a 5*A rating in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The Department of Pharmacoepidemiology has a well-established international reputation for its research in drug safety.

STRUCTURE AND WRITTEN EXPRESSION

Structure and Written Expression adalah bagian kedua yang diujikan dalam ujian TOEFL. Ini dimaksudkan untuk mengetahui kompetensi Anda dalam hal Tata Bahasa di dalam bahasa Inggris. Pertanyaaan yang diujikan dalam bagian ini sebanyak 40 soal yang dibagi ke dalam dua model, yaitu structure question dan wriiten expression questions. Durasi waktu yang disediakan hanya selama 25 menit.

STRUCTURE

Model pertama structure questions terdiri dari lima belas pertanyaan, yaitu terdapat pada soal nomor 1 sampai 15. bagian pertama ini digunakan untuk menguji kemampuan Anda dalam memahami struktur kalimat dalam bahasa Inggris secara benar.
Pengujian pada model ini menggunakan format structure completion, yaitu pada lembar soal, Anda akan menjumpai bagian kalimat yang masih kosong/belum lengkap. Anda harus melengkapinya dengan salah satu dari empat pilihan jawaban (A, B, C atau D) yang tersedia.

Contoh :
Young children ....................playing active games such as chasing, hide and seek, and tag.

(D) does enjoy

Anda harus memilih salah satu dari keekmpat jawaban tersebut yang paling tepat. Pada kalimat di atas, Anda harus mengidentifikasikan kekurangan dari kalimat tersebut. Pilihan yang paling mungkin adalah (A) dan (B), tetapi children mengacu pada kata benda jamak, sehingga (B) tidak bisa diterima maka jawaban yang tepat adalah (A).

WRITTEN EXPRESSION
Model ini meliputi dua puluh lima pertanyaanya terdapat mulai soal nomor 16 sampai 40. bagian ini terutama ditujukan untuk mengetahui kemampuan dan pengetahuan Anda tentang bentuk-bentuk ekspresi yang digunakan dalam tulisan berbahas Inggris. Pada bagian ini Anda diminta untuk mengidentifikasi bagian yang tidak tepat dalam sebuah kalimat. Bagian yang tidak tepat ini terdapat pada salah satu dari empat kata atau kelompok kata yang diberi tanda garis bawah.

Selanjutnya Anda harus mengidentifikasikan bagian mana yang salah dari keempat kata/kelompok kata yang diberi garis bawah. Dengan pengamatan yang teliti akhirya Anda menemukan bahwa pilihan (C) merupakan komponen penyusun kalimat yang salah karena “most of which” merujuk pada noun yang jamak. Dengan demikian verb yang tepat bukanlah “is” melainkan “are”.

The Netherlands: Scholarships for Master Students at The Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e)

Introduction
The Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e), with support from The Shell Centenary Scholarship Fund (TSCSF), offers scholarships to talented postgraduate students from the developing world. The aim of the scholarship is to give students the opportunity to study at the TU/e and gain skills that will make a long-term contribution to the further development of their countries.

Eligible students
Candidates for these scholarships should normally be:
aged 35 or under;
intending to study a subject that will be of significant value in aiding the sustainable development of their home country;
of such outstanding academic ability as to be able easily to obtain a place on the MSc program of their choice;
fluent in spoken and written English;
neither a current nor former employee of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of companies.
not already enrolled in a TU/e program.

Eligible countries
Students who are nationals of and resident in any country other than the following may apply for a scholarship: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States.

Costs covered
This is a so-called 'full-cost' scholarship which means that students are granted a fixed amount of money which usually covers tuition fees, international travel, living and other costs.

How many scholarships are available?
6 scholarships will be available for new master students starting their 1st year of master studies in academic year 2007/2008. There are also 6 scholarships for 2nd year Master’s students, who were granted their 1st year scholarship in 2006.

Duration of scholarship
The duration of the master program with a maximum of two years.

Application procedure
All students applying for a TU/e master’s program will automatically be entered in the selection procedure for this scholarship. Students must have applied for admission to a TU/e master’s program before 1 March 2007.

Successful scholarship candidates will be informed mid June 2007.

Bagaimana Meraih Beasiswa di Luar Negeri?

MELANJUTKAN pendidikan tinggi, baik di dalam negeri maupun di luar negeri, merupakan dambaan setiap pelajar. Sayangnya, keinginan ini sering kali sulit terwujud akibat biaya kuliah yang mahal. Padahal untuk menyiasati biaya yang tinggi tersebut, kita bisa memanfaatkan program beasiswa yang ditawarkan sejumlah institusi, baik itu dari dalam negeri maupun dari luar negeri.

PARA penerima beasiswa Australian Partnership Scholarship (APS) 2005 sedang mendengarkan penjelasan dari Kooordinator Program AusAID di Jakarta, Mei lalu.*HUMINCA/"PR"
Sebagai contoh, institusi dalam negeri yang biasanya memberikan beasiswa, di antaranya Direktorat Pendidikan Tinggi (Dikti) Depdiknas yang bekerja sama dengan pihak swasta. Institusi tersebut menyediakan beasiswa untuk melanjutkan kuliah di dalam negeri dan luar negeri.

Sementara itu, pemberi beasiswa dari luar negeri, seperti Kedutaan Besar Singapura, Jepang, dan Australia, menawarkan beasiswa untuk studi di negara-negara tersebut. Hal ini bisa diketahui lewat situs kedubes. Program studi yang ditawarkan melalui beasiswa sangat beragam dan tidak melulu ditujukan untuk kuliah pascasarjana. Sejumlah beasiswa untuk S-1 bahkan untuk SMA pun disediakan.

Misalnya, Kementerian Pendidikan Singapura menawarkan beasiswa ASEAN (Perhimpunan Bangsa-bangsa Asia Tenggara) kepada sejumlah pelajar berprestasi untuk belajar di SMA ternama di Singapura. Bahkan, jika punya prestasi bagus, mereka dapat melanjutkan pendidikan tinggi secara gratis ke National University of Singapore (NUS) atau Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Beasiswa ini biasanya mulai dibuka Mei dan ditutup Juli setiap tahun. Para siswa SMP yang berminat melamar besaiswa tersebut, bisa mengakses situs Kedubes Singapura untuk mendapat keterangan lebih lanjut.

Selama ini, pemerintah Australia dikenal sebagai negara pemberi beasiswa terbesar. Setiap tahunnya melalui program ADS (Australian Development Scholarship) mereka memberikan beasiswa kepada 300-an orang untuk kuliah di negeri kanguru tersebut.

Bahkan, tahun lalu dan tahun ini, jumlah penerima beasiswa ditingkatkan menjadi 600 orang melalui program APS (Australian Partnership Scholarship). Pendaftaran untuk program ini mulai dibuka 8 Mei dan akan ditutup 7 Juli. Para peminat bisa mengakses situs: apsprogram.or.id atau adsjakarta.or.id.

Kuliah di luar negeri, bagi yang tidak memiliki biaya, sebenarnya bukan masalah, karena sejumlah program beasiswa dapat mengakomodasi keinginan tersebut.

Jumlah program beasiswa sangat terbatas, sedangkan peminatnya sangat banyak. Karena itu, sebelum diproses lebih lanjut, semua aplikasi beasiswa yang diterima akan diseleksi terlebih dahulu. Biasanya dalam proses seleksi tersebut ada dua tahap yang harus dilalui, yakni seleksi administrasi dan interview.

Ada beberapa hal yang perlu diketahui para pelamar beasiswa agar berhasil.

Pertama, berkaitan dengan seleksi administrasi. Kita jangan menganggap remeh proses pengisian aplikasi, karena apa yang kita tulis dalam formulir juga menjadi penentu keberhasilan kita selanjutnya. Misalnya, jika kita mengisi formulir aplikasi dengan data yang tidak lengkap serta tidak melengkapi dokumen-dokumen (fotokopi ijazah, sertifikat TOEFL/IELTS terbaru, akta kelahiran, dan lain-lain) yang diminta, kesempatan kita untuk memenangkan beasiswa pun akan hilang.

Kedua, seleksi wawancara. Biasanya tim pewawancara terdiri dari beberapa orang dan mereka ini berasal dari negara pemberi beasiswa. Dalam tahap ini, sejumlah pertanyaan akan diajukan kepada kita, di antaranya latar belakang pendidikan dan alasan kita mengambil program studi sebagaimana yang dicantumkan dalam formulir aplikasi. Untuk keperluan interview ini, ada baiknya kita berlatih berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris.

BERKAITAN dengan proses seleksi, Mida, pemenang beasiswa ADS 2006 asal Kota Padang saat dihubungi "PR" memberikan sejumlah tips tambahan bagaimana cara mendapat beasiswa.

Menurut Mida, sebelum melamar program beasiswa tertentu, pelamar harus memahami dengan benar bidang studi yang akan diambil. Misalnya, jika ingin mengambil Master of Applied Linguistic, pelamar harus tahu bahwa bidang studi yang dipelajari akan berkait dengan ilmu linguistik, di antaranya morfologi dan fonetik. Soalnya, hal yang demikian sering kali ditanyakan saat kita maju ke tahap wawancara.

Selain itu, kata Mida yang akan segera memulai studinya di University of Queensland pada semester dua ini, saat interview kita juga harus bisa menunjukkan pada pewawancara bahwa kita bisa berkomunikasi dengan baik, di antaranya menggunakan bahasa Inggris dengan lancar.

AWI Scholarship Program - Wool Production

AWI has established a Scholarship Program to support students and researchers in their efforts to develop skills relevant to the future of the wool industry.

Postgraduate applications for 2007 are now open and close 1 December 2006.

Undergraduate applications for 2007 will open Febuary 2007.

Post doctoral fellowship

The post-doctoral awards are to support high-level research, preferably in the areas of technology convergence where inter-disciplinary developments provide opportunities for the wool industry with an on farm focus. Applicants should have a strong track record of publications and scholarships.

$65,000pa for a maximum of three years is offered for salary only. Applications will only be accepted for those candidates who have completed their PhD in the last five years.

Applicants for post-doctoral awards are required to provide statements from three academic referees using the Confidential Academic Referee Form. Applicants must ensure that these forms are forwarded directly to AWI by the referee and received by the closing date.

PhD scholarship

The PhD scholarships provide a stipend of $28,000pa, paid to the host university or research organisation for a maximum of three years. Candidates will be paid a stipend by a university or research organisation on a full time basis. Regardless of employment details, appropriate academic supervision will be required.

PhD 'top up' scholarship

Applications for 'top up' awards are also encouraged from students who have received another scholarship (for example, APA, ARC). A stipend of $10,000pa will be paid to the participating university, which will supplement other incentives available to candidates and encourage them to undertake projects relevant to the wool industry.

Applicants for PhD 'top up' awards are required to provide a statement from two academic referees using the Confidential Academic Referee Form. Applicants must ensure that these forms are forwarded directly to AWI by the referee and received by the closing date.

Applicants who currently hold a PhD Scholarship from either the Australian Sheep Industry CRC or Meat & Livestock Australia are ineligible to apply for an AWI scholarship.

Undergraduate Scholarships
Applications must have a focus on wool production and its associated fields of study to be considered eligible for a scholarship.

Honours scholarship

An award of $5,000 will be paid to students to undertake an Honours project relevant to the wool industry. The award will be paid directly to the candidate. The award will be paid in two instalments, 50 per cent on commencement and 50 per cent on satisfactory completion of the program.

Applicants for an Honours scholarship are required to provide a statement from one academic referee using the Confidential Academic Referee Form. Applicants must ensure that these forms are forwarded directly to AWI by the referee and received by the closing date.

Undergraduate scholarship

The scholarships are worth a total of $9,000pa for the duration of the undergraduate degree (a maximum of four years), subject to satisfactory progress at university. These scholarships will be paid to the candidate to support and encourage them to pursue a professional career within the wool industry in the area of agri-business and have a wool focus.

Having achieved a high academic standard, students will be selected largely on the basis of their personal skills, leadership potential and motivation, as well as their non-academic achievements.

Students commencing their first year of their degree will be given preference, however second year students are still encouraged to apply.

Undergraduate scholarship winners will be expected to take a minimum of two Australian Sheep Industry CRC sheep and wool degree units during their course. Applicants should check with their institution as to whether these units will be offered during the course of their program.

Undergraduate scholarship winners will also be expected to undertake six weeks of work experience with an employer from the wool industry. A credit average must be maintained for the duration of the scholarship.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident to be eligible and plan to study at an Australian University.

1. The ability of the applicant on the basis of their personal skills, leadership potential and motivation, as well as their non-academic achievements (including academic record where appropriate);
2. The quality of the project and its relevance to the wool industry needs and AWI's research priorities;
3. Relationship to existing and previous projects carried out in the field of study; and
The expertise of the proposed university or research organisation.

The following selection criteria will be used to assess Undergraduate applications:

1. The ability of the applicant (including academic record where appropriate);
2. The degree/studies undertaken and its relevance to the wool industry; and
3. For Honours students, the quality of the research project and the expertise of the proposed university or research organisation.

The IFS runs an annual Graduate Scholarship Programme which finances one or more students for three years to undertake research leading to a degree of Ph.D. The scholarship is payable at the ESRC rate, currently £14,300pa. and fees will be paid.

IFS Scholars will register as full-time students at the Department of Economics, University College London and will have access to the extensive research facilities of IFS and UCL. At IFS they will be associated with the ESRC Centre for Microeconomic Analysis of Public Policy. IFS has established an international reputation in Microeconometrics and Empirical Microeconomics research and its relation to policy issues and your research should be relevant to these areas.

This year one of the Scholars will be expected to work in the field of Development Economics and will be affiliated with the Centre for the Evaluation of Development Policies (EDePo). A recipient of the Scholarship may not concurrently hold any other Scholarship, Fellowship, Grant or Award without the prior approval of the Singapore Government.
There is no bond imposed on the Scholarship by the Singapore Government. The Scholars are expected to return home to contribute to the development of their countries upon graduation.

The Singapore Government reserves the right to terminate the Scholarship if the Scholar’s academic progress is unsatisfactory or his conduct is in violation of the university`s rules and regulations.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MASTERS DEGREES IN HUMAN RIGHTS 2007-2008

What does the programme offer?
The scholarships aim to provide opportunities for independent postgraduate study in the United Kingdom for students who are engaged in or intending to pursue postgraduate work in their own country and who have demonstrated both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers in their own country. Subject to satisfactory progress, the scholarships lead to the award of a Masters.

The scholarships will enable suitably qualified students to pursue taught postgraduate programmes within the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex. The two programmes offered are the MA in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights and the LLM in International Human Rights Law.

Each award will provide for payment of academic tuition fees, examination fees, a monthly stipend for living expenses sufficient for a single student, and other agreed allowances including one return economy airfare.

Who is eligible to apply?
The scholarships are open to applicants from Indonesia, Jordan and Palestine (Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel are also eligible to apply).

Applicants:

* should be nationals of and normally resident in one of the selected countries at the time of applying for the award; applicants who are temporarily out of the country at the time of application (for a total period of less than 3 consecutive months) may be treated as being resident;
* should already hold (or expect to hold by the time of taking up the award) a relevant first degree with good grades;
* should have passed a IELTS test at an appropriate level (7.0) by the time of taking up an award;
* should normally have relevant practical experience;
* should commit to returning to their home country at the end of their scholarship period to continue their studies/ work there;
* must be aged between 23-35 years;
* should not have already received of be currently receiving financial benefit from a previous HMG funded scholarship;
* should not be employees, employees’ relatives (of former employees who have left employment less than 2 years before) of FCO (including FCO posts), the British Council, the Educational Advising Centers or other OSI-NSP representations in the region and the participating universities.

Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously studied outside of their home country.

Under a special scheme for students of ASEAN member countries, the Government of Brunei Darussalam offers eighteen (18) scholarship annually, nine (9) places specifically for MSc. in Petroleum Geoscience. Tenable at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

The aim of the scholarship is to provide students, who are citizens of ASEAN member countries, an opportunity to undertake first degree programmes or the Master's degree programme at the University. The academic year of the University is from August to June. Only two scholarships will be awarded each year to two students from each ASEAN member country (one for MSc. in Petroleum Geoscience programme).

TENURE OF SCHOLARSHIP

The Scholarship is tenable normally for the duration of the programme which the scholarship is awarded.

The Scholarship is subject to the Scholar maintaining satisfactory conduct and progress in his/her studies (this requires the Scholar to maintain an active registration status by passing the prescribed semester examinations and obtaining the minimum course credit units).

Art, General Paper or English as a Second Language will not be considered as one of the advanced level subjects. However Art can be considered as one of the relevant 'A' Level subjects for candidates applying for BA Primary Education, BA Education, BEd (General Science) or BA Education (Malay Medium) offered by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education.

Malay Language examinations set by the London GCE 'O' Level examination syndicate is not recognised as equivalent to the Brunei-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level.

Applicants must satisfy other requirements as set by Universiti Brunei Darussalam from time to time.

HEALTH


A successful applicants will be required to submit a Certificate of Medical Fitness from a registered medical practitioner to the Registrar and Secretary, Universiti Brunei Darussalam before the award can be confirmed. All charges for obtaining a medical certificate will be borne by the applicant concerned.

OTHER CONDITIONS OF AWARD


An applicant may be required to appear for an interview at such place(s) as may be determined by the University, and to sit a written examination to assess his/her proficiency in the English Language/Malay Language/Arabic Language (where applicable).

The University reserves the right to reject any applicant.

Successful applicants may be required to undergo a medical examination in Brunei Darussalam.

Sebelum kuliah dimulai, Pusbindiklatren juga memberikan beasiswa kursus bahasa Inggris di Pusat Bahasa yang ditunjuk oleh Pusbindiklatren selama 6 bulan bagi peserta yang mempunyai nilai TOEFL sekurang-kurangnya 450, untuk mencapai nilai TOEFL 550.
Apabila peserta tidak dapat mencapai nilai 550, yang bersangkutan masih memiliki kesempatan untuk meningkatkan nilai TOEFL selama mengikuti tahun pertama program S2 di Indonesia;
Apabila tidak lulus seleksi ke luar negeri, maka pada tahun kedua peserta akan meneruskan di dalam negeri, dan untuk itu hanya memperoleh 1 gelar dari universitas di dalam negeri;
Mereka yang tidak lulus seleksi luar negeri tersebut, jika nilai TOEFL-nya lebih dari 550 akan mendapatkan biaya hidup selama jangka waktu program reguler pada program studi yang diambil (18 bulan);
Sedangkan bagi mereka yang tidak lulus seleksi luar negeri karena nilai TOEFLnya kurang dari 550 hanya akan mendapatkan biaya hidup sampai dengan 13 bulan;
Khusus untuk peserta Double Degree di Indonesia dan di Perancis, peserta akan diberikan persiapan bahasa Perancis selama 7 bulan untuk mendapatkan sertifikat DELF 4.

Program S2 di Luar Negeri: program ini memanfaatkan Beasiswa S2 pemerintah asing atau institusi internasional yang selama ini telah tersedia bagi Indonesia, seperti STUNED dari Belanda, ADS dan APS dari Australia, JDS dan Monbukagakusho dari Jepang, beasiswa Kedubes Perancis dari Pemerintah Perancis,dll, bagi peserta yang telah memiliki nilai TOEFL 550. Untuk itu, Pusbindiklatren akan memberikan beasiswa kursus bahasa Inggris (EAP=English for Academic Purpose) di Jakarta selama 6 bulan bagi peserta yang mempunyai nilai TOEFL sekurang-kurangnya 450, dan apabila nilai TOEFL peserta (selama atau setelah kursus) telah mencapai 550, Pusbindiklatren akan membantu peserta untuk memperoleh Beasiswa S2 tersebut di atas. Bagi peserta S2 ke Perancis akan mendapatkan pelatihan bahasa Perancis selama 7 bulan untuk memperoleh sertifikat DELF 4.

Fungsional Penjenjangan Perencana Utama, selama 1 minggu, khusus bagi perencana yang telah dan akan masuk JFP;

PROSEDUR PELAMARAN

Mereka yang berhak melamar program beasiswa Pusbindiklatren adalah mereka yang memenuhi persyaratan seperti yang disebutkan di atas, dan belum pernah mengambil/memiliki gelar S2 untuk yang melamar beasiswa S2, serta belum pernah mengambil/memiliki gelar S3 untuk yang melamar beasiswa S3, dengan mengisi formulir pendaftaran dan diusulkan secara resmi oleh instansi asalnya melalui pejabat pengelola kepegawaian atau atasan langsung (minimal eselon II). Surat usulan yang dimaksud harus menyebutkan nama-nama pegawai yang diusulkan oleh instansi, dan program/topik beasiswa yang diminati.

Pusbindiklatren telah mengirimkan formulir pendaftaran ke seluruh Pemerintah Propinsi/Kabupaten/Kota melalui Sekda, BKD, dan Ketua Bappeda. Untuk mendapatkan formulir tersebut dapat menghubungi pejabat yang bersangkutan, atau dapat didownload pada situs kami: www.pusbindiklatren.bappenas.go.id.

Pusbindiklatren hanya akan menindaklanjuti formulir pendaftaran yang bermaterai dan bertandatangan asli dengan persetujuan dari atasan langsung (minimal eselon II). Untuk Program Seleksi Beasiswa Pusbindiklatren Tahun 2007 ini, kami tidak lagi memproses usulan dan formulir yang disampaikan melalui faksimili.

One Post Doc position is offered in the area of ICT and learning at the Department of Information and Computer Science, Faculty of Information Technology, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering, The Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

The position is within the context of FABULA, a NFR-financed project that involves the Department of Information and Computer Science, the Department of Telematics, and the Centre for Learning with ICT (LIKT) at NTNU.

The project aims to develop novel principles and technical solutions for learning enabled by seamless roaming in mobile networks, with focus on services that foster the city learning geographies and ecologies and enable new relationships among learners and communities. The project goals include the development of a conceptual framework to support design and evaluation of innovative learning services as well as the creation of a framework for the rapid development of learning services and a service oriented delivery platform that supports their dynamic deployment adaptation. The candidate is expected to contribute to the start-up phase of the project, working in close cooperation with the actors involved in the project.

The fellowship is for 1 year. A PhD or equivalent qualification on topics relevant to the project is required. Preferential title is a background in Computer Supported Cooperative Learning and/or in mobile services. Previous experience in project management and/or participation to multidisciplinary projects is highly appreciated.

Asia Pacific Leadership Program adalah program sertifikat yang dirancang untuk memenuhi kebutuhan baru di bidang pendidikan dan sumber daya manusia dalam periode dimana saling ketergantungan di wilayah Asia Pasifik semakin meningkat. Program ini akan menciptakan jaringan pemimpin dari Amerika Serikat, Asia, dan wilayah Pasifik yang mengenal isu dan budaya di wilayahnya dan terlatih dalam kepemimpinan untuk kesejahteraan negara-negara dan rakyat di wilayahnya. Program ini telah terbentuk melalui dukungan dana dari Freeman Foundation.

The School is offering the following scholarships to full time Doctoral students for the 2007/08 session:

Seven full Scholarships covering full tuition fees as well as tax-free living expenses of £12,300 per year (ESRC rate). One of these scholarships is being offered by the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR), Christel DeHaan Travel and Tourism Research Institute (TTRI). The Centre for Risk and Insurance Studies is also offering a full scholarship from the Agnes Hempsell Fund. All scholarships are available to both home/EU and overseas students. GERMANY: Post-Doctoral Researcher Transmission Electron Microscopy-Nanotechnology 2007

Germany Post Doctoral Researcher Transmission Electron Microscopy (Nanotechnology) at University of Ulm
Applications are invited for postdoctoral positions in the field of high-resolution analytical transmission electron microscopy applied to nanostructures and nanotechnology, starting from November 2006,. Experiments will be performed on one of the world-first TITAN 80-300 equipped with imaging Cs corrector, STEM detector, Gatan imaging filter, Bi-prism, Lorentz lens and Tomography possibilities.

The work will involve research into the evaluation of Z-contrast imaging techniques also in a conventional TEM in order to establish a solid base for electron tomography for material science applications in a conventional TEM and in STEM with applications to nanotechnology. The project is financed by a grant awarded by the German research Foundation (DFG) and will be supervised by Prof. U. Kaiser, (start January 2007).

The candidate we are looking for must have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science. He/she should have demonstrated ability, experience and enthusiasm in TEM and STEM and related calculations. Knowledge and experience in electron tomography is an advantage. The projects will be initially for 2 years. The salary is set in accordance with the German publicservice pay scale TVÖD (approx. €25.000 to €33.000 P.A. after tax, depending on age and family state).

How to apply for a Chevening scholarship
Chevening scholarships are a great way of gaining access to high-quality education. Every year, hundreds of scholars come to the UK to learn new skills and make new friends. If you want to apply, here are a few things you need to know.
Please read this article in full before getting in touch, and use the website to see if the information you require is online.

How to apply
If you want to apply for a scholarship, you will have to contact the British Embassy/High Commission or The British Council in the country of which you are a citizen. Please see http://www.chevening.com/about/scholarships/ and select the country for which you are a citizen for the application procedure.
Application Procedure
The Chevening Scholarship Programme is a truly global programme and operates in over 150 countries around the world. As the programme is so diverse and far-reaching there isn't a single timetable for applications and so it is important that you check with the local office when the deadline for applications in your country is.

Although the timetable for deadlines may change from country to country the application process remains the same.

Each country will advertise when they are inviting applications for Chevening scholarships and will state their deadline for applications. Applications will not be dealt with after the date that they give.

Stage 1: Applications are checked to ensure that the applicant meets the standard Chevening criteria (see below) plus any other specified local criteria (see country pages and local advertisement). Because of the volume of applications and high level of competition it is not always possible to reply to each and every application.

Stage 2: If your application meets all of the criteria for the scholarship then you will be short-listed and the local office will write to you and ask you to attend an interview.

Stage 3: You will be interviewed by a panel of interviewers – normally consisting of a member of the British Embassy or High Commission and a member of the British Council.

Stage 4: As the competition for scholarships is intense and funds limited, it is not possible to recommend for all successful candidates the length of award and level of study requested on their application.

Any award of a Scholarship to you is conditional on the following:

- confirmation from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London that your nomination is acceptable;

- there being sufficient funds available;

- the British Council being able to place you on a suitable course;

- the British Council being satisfied with the results of a medical examination which you will be asked to undertake prior to departure.

If and when these formalities have been satisfactorily completed (which may take several months) you will receive a formal written offer of a Scholarship. You should not make any irreversible preparations to leave for Britain unless and until you receive this offer letter.

Your application will be administered by the British Council on behalf of the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Selecting your course


In some countries, you need to select your own course of study. educationuk.org is a really useful website which will help you identify a suitable course of study for yourself.

What are the financial arrangements?
There are three types of scholarship:


Type A scholarships – these cover tuition fees only.

Type B scholarships – these are full scholarships that cover tuition fees, monthly stipend and various one-off allowances.

Type C scholarships – these vary from award to award and cover part/full stipend and/or allowances.

What are the selection criteria for application?
Competition for Chevening scholarships is intense, and only one in every 25 applicants is successful. A typical successful applicant would be:


A graduate with proven academic skills.

Committed to return to their country and contribute to the socio-economic development of their country through *implementing the new skills and knowledge acquired in the UK.

Established in a career, with a track record of excellence and achievement, and the prospect of becoming a leader in his/her chosen field. The vast majority of Chevening scholars are aged 25 - 35 years old.

Be able to show at interview that they possess the personal qualities to benefit from their scholarship and use it to succeed in their chosen career.

Have a clear idea how their scholarship will benefit their country on their return.

Have good English Language skills, as most UK Higher Education Institutions require a minimum IELTS of 6.5 for admission onto Postgraduate courses.

The application procedure is open and transparent. Please refer to the country page of the country you will be applying to for further details regarding specific criteria and eligibility, which vary from country to county.

What types of courses can I study on a Chevening scholarship?
Chevening scholars must study in the UK for at least 3-months. Most scholars already have a first degree and the majority study for postgraduate degrees particularly Masters courses. However some scholars cannot spare that much time away from their careers and we welcome applications for shorter vocational courses as long as they are adequately challenging and relevant.

We seldom fund undergraduate courses and normally only consider PhD's and MPhil's when we have a co-funding partner.

Chevening scholarships can be used to study most subjects, however in different countries they may target a narrower range of subjects that are especially relevant to that country. Please refer to the country page of the country you will be applying to for further definitive advice on priority subjects.

Train Fellowship Program, Education for Nature Program (EFN) memberikan beasiswa kepada para aktivis konservasi di negara Afrika, Asia dan Amerika Latin untuk melanjutkan pendidikannya, sehingga dapat meningkatkan ilmu pengetahuan dan kemampuannya untuk mengelola sumberdaya alam dalam konteks yang luas.

To be eligible to receive a Russell E. Train Fellowship, you must meet the following criteria:
1. You must be a citizen or legal permanent resident of Indonesia.
2. You must have at least two-year’s work experience in conservation activities.
3. You must be enrolled, be admitted, or have applied to a graduate degree program (master’s or PhD) at an institution of higher education by the application deadline AND you must plan to begin your studies no later than one year after the application deadline.
4. You must commit to working in conservation in Indonesia or a neighboring country in the region at least two yeras after the completion of your degree.
5. You must NOT have received a Russell E. Train Scholarship or Fellowship in the past. Those who have received EFN Professional Development Grants may apply for a Train Fellowship.
6. You must NOT be a full time employee of WWF. Consultans may apply.
7. Your field of study must pertain to one of the following:
- A natural science discipline relevant to sustainable natural resource management, ecosystem services or biodiversity conservation in the Heart of Borneo or Sumatra priority regions
- A social science discipline relevant to sustainable resource management, sustainable economic development or community-based participation in the Heart of Borneo or Sumatra priority regions
- Business planning, environmental economics and/or policy, or public-private partnerships that promote sustainable natural resource management or biodiversity conservation in the Herat of Borneo or Sumatra priority regions
- Endangered species protection: tigers, elephants, rhinos, or orangutans enforcement, and management in the Heart of Borneo or Sumatra priority regions

PIRAC adalah organisasi sumber daya nirlaba dan independen yang memberikan pelayanan dalam bentuk penelitian, pelatihan, advokasi, dan penyebaran informasi di bidang filantropi dan penguatan organisasi masyarakat sipil di Indonesia. Beasiswa ini dimulai pada setiap semester.

Ketentuan Umum Penerima Beasiswa PIRAC:
- Dikhususkan untuk Mahasiswa program Sarjana (S-1) yang
memiliki prestasi akademik, duduk di semester 5 (lima) s.d. 9 (sembilan) dibuktikan dengan transkrip nilai.
- Aktif sebagai relawan/ volunteer di LSM/ organisasi yang bergerak di bidang pengembangan kegiatan sosial sekurang-kurangnya 1 (satu) tahun.
- Tidak sedang menerima beasiswa dari lembaga/ perorangan lain
- Berusia antara 18 s.d. 25 tahun
- Mengajukan surat permohonan kepada Panitia dengan menyertakan Daftar Riwayat Aktivitas lengkap.

Ketentuan Khusus Penerima Beasiswa:
- Menyertakan Daftar Riwayat Aktivitas, yang menggambarkan riwayat aktivitas sebagai relawan/mahasiswa,
- Mencantumkan nama Bank dan nomor rekening penerima beasiswa serta email,
- Melampirkan fotokopi Kartu Tanda Mahasiswa dan atau Kartu Tanda Penduduk
- Pasfoto hitam putih 4 x 6 satu lembar
- Melampirkan keterangan/transkrip nilai akademik sampai dengan semester terakhir yang telah disahkan.
- Surat keterangan tidak sedang menerima beasiswa lain
- Surat keterangan telah menjadi relawan/volunteer sekurang-kurangnya selama 1 (satu) tahun dari lembaga sosial
- Melampirkan fotokopi akta notaris lembaga (dari 3 halaman pertama)
- Menulis Essai/Opini bertema “Kedermawanan Sosial di Indonesia”. Tulisan Opini bebas dibuat pada kertas HVS A4, 5000 - 10.000 karakter dengan spasi 1,5.

Permohonan beasiswa dapat disampaikan setiap awal semester. Keputusan akhir penerima beasiswa ditetapkan dan diumumkan Panitia melalui Buletin Galang, website PIRAC dan email pendaftar. Berkas pendaftar yang tidak diterima dapat dikembalikan bila disertai perangko secukupnya.

Program Beasiswa ini terselenggara atas dukungan dan sumbangan tidak mengikat dari berbagai pihak. Sumbangan dikumpulkan oleh panitia dengan mengumumkan program beasiswa ini di Buletin Galang dan media-media lain. Para donatur akan menerima Informasi dan laporan aktivitas melalui buletin GALANG atau melalui Web PIRAC.

Indonesia Managing Higher Education

Dalam rangka pelaksanaan kegiatan Indonesia Managing Higher Education for Relevance and Efficiency (I-MHERE) dengan dana pinjaman dari World Bank Loan Number 4789-IND dan IDA Loan Number 4077-IND, Departemen Pendidikan Nasional Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi mengundang perguruan tinggi negri maupun swasta yang memenuhi persyaratan untuk mengikuti proses seleksi hibah kompetisi tahap ketiga Sub-Component B.1 yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas dan tanggung jawab sosial institusi pendidikan tinggi.

President University Campus Scholarship

President University was formulated in September 1997 by Mr. S.D. Darmono, the President Director of PT Jababeka Tbk. and Prof. Donald W. Watts, who was the President of Bond University, Queensland and Vice Chancellor of Curtin University, Western Australia, to start President University and initially offering only the Bachelor of Commerce degree. This idea was approved by the Founders of President University.

For Academic Year 2007-2008, 5 full scholarships are available based on the ranking from entrance examination.
Criteria for full scholarship candidate:
1. Fresh graduate of senior high school
2. Show a good academic record during high school (min. 75)
3. Pass the interview session by the committee
4. Pass the President University Entrance Examination with a good result (= 85)
Beasiswa yang tersedia sampai dengan Rp.220 juta selama masa studi.
Beasiswa yang didapat berdasarkan dari nilai Hasil Ujian Saringan Masuk, Prestasi Sekolah dan Interview. Beasiswa akan dievaluasi setiap akhir tahun sesuai prestasi akademik.

Tenure and Benefits of OCBC International Undergraduate Scholarship:
- Tuition fees and all other approved fees and a living allowance of S$7,000 per annum
- Air passage from home country to Singapore upon award of scholarship and from Singapore to home country upon successful completion of the degree
